Re: Greetings
Thanks. My Ice Cream was doing pretty well for awhile. We had a cool June for PHX standards (only a handful of 100 degree days ) But now its not even growin. I think I'll post somethin about it in the form tthat has to do with banana issues.

Re: Greetings
I think heat can slow them down--I have read about some in AZ using shade, you should also probably paint containers white if they are in containers.

Re: Greetings
Welcome aboard, Filmorer
Luv my ice-creams! They're 12-18 feet tall now and have quite a few, all extremely healthy. Been growing ice-creams (Blue Javas) for 3 years now. Sbl: Heat & sunlight would not be the problem. Blue Java ice-creams Luv heat & suffer without full sun. We just recently came out of a continuous week at 100-105 degrees F and my ice-creams are putting up huge new leaves like madcats! If you would like, you could explain in more detail; I might be able to determine what problem might exist. Just a thought. Filmorer: Will be more than happy to provide any info ya might need. There are others here, as well, growing ice-creams.... very popular! Hope ya have a great time here, I have ! |

Re: Greetings
I live in Tucson and have several Ice Creams. I did notice that one of them had slowed down its growth a week ago, although its pups were doing fine. These are container grown plants. Since I work mostly at home, I started watering them 4 times per day (3 times during daylight and once at night). I also sprayed them down including my patio which got very hot. The plant's growth seems to have returned to normal - about 1 new leaf every 6 days. I also added a little bit of fertilizer for good measure.
The containers were originally black plastic, but I painted them clay color before planting the bananas. The hot dry wind has been the biggest culprit so far. I have had many leaves broken off. |

Re: Greetings
filmorer welcome to the org. Bananas like humidity which is not available naturally in PHX; but, you can help your plants out by misting the leaves occasionally. Let us know if that does the trick for you.
