Greetings
I have just joined successfully I think Bananas.org. We shall see. My name is Andrew and I have three banana plants: a Dwarf Orinoco, an Ice Cream, and a Dwarf Cavendish. I was actually loathe to acquire the last; after all, one can buy Cavendish bananas by the hand all day long in any grocery store. Not true? Anyhoo, I am delighted to become a member of such august company and I look forward to learning from members just how to glean the very best from our membership in this organization. I have already learned from experience that banana plants are heavy feeders and they love, quite actually, nitrogen. I am using heavy applications of 10-0-10 on my three plants and they are rewarding me by growing like the proverbial gang-busters. I should add that I live in Deland, Florida, about 50 miles north of Orlando, the Disney capitol of the South. The weather here seems to be very conducive to growing banana plants and I am looking forward to my first harvest of fruit in some 10 to 15 months hence.
