Hi all - new to the forum. I have just developed an interest in bananas. My husband wants a red one and is threatening to put on camo and go looking for banana babies in the neighborhood! ha Surely there are affordable red banana plants somewhere eh? a seed maybe....ha

so where are you??i keep and like jamacian red{tall}the fruit is great..not easy to find "wild"...i tend to keep a close eye on mine..hahahahaha..try or as well as the red, an orinoco is easy to grow and,well at least here are all over and simple to find "wild"...enjoy happy hunting

The thing about reds is that they aren't that cold hardy. If you want something that will better take the cold and is red at the same time, I recommend Ensete Maurellii.

That's a new one to me. I'll have to look it up. I am in north Florida -- we do get a few weeks now and again below freezing but my sabas have all made it. Thanks!

read that you can't actually eat the banana from this plant however. Do you know of one that is cold hardy that is also edible? Thanks!
