Greetigns from the carolinas
Actually our adventures with Banana plants started last year when I bought on the spur of the moment my first Musella Lasiocarpa to decorate around the pool and I fell in love to the dismay of my husband :O). By the end of the summer we had a second musella, a cavendish and a blood banana.
Even though we went out and bought a green house the blood banana and the cavendish did not survive last winter we think we know what went wrong (to much humidity in the green house). So needless to say we had to go on a shopping spree this spring and we brought home another cavendish, Blood banana and Basjoo. I am looking forward to learn all I can about my diffrent Banana trees and how to properly take care of them so we don't have another sad winter. Re: Greetigns from the carolinas
Welcome Little Rat.
Sounds like you have a nice start this year. I just love to see bananas around a pool. What temp was the green house this winter? That basjoo can stay outside if protected. Mine is starting to push leaves. It stayed outside this winter and I'm in zone 6. Michael |

Re: Greetigns from the carolinas
Hi Micheal, Thank you for the welcome :O)
Hmmm not to sure about that one since hubby took care of the babies in the green house, but we think it was to moist in there. We tried to cut everything back but the stalk was really mushy and it rotted completely. The only thing that survived the cut back was the 2 chinese, and they are doing great with a bunch of babies. Re: Greetigns from the carolinas
Just my guess but I'd say its not the humidity but that they got too cold or were over watered. Even though I brought mine inside I was very stingy with the water.

Re: Greetigns from the carolinas
Welcome aboard. Funny how it goes with bananas ,you start with ine and often end up with a tropical landscape. Always great to have around the pool. Looking forward to hearing more.

Re: Greetigns from the carolinas
After talking it over with hubby he thinks you are probably right and he over watered them.
Lesson learned and it won't happen next winter.
