Got bananas
Hi I live in the Central Valley, CA and I have two banana plants with bananas starting to grow on them. One is a tall plant variety the other is a short plant variety. I'm wanting to know how to keep the banana's developing through the winter.

Re: Got bananas
Hello, and welcome! It really all depends on what zone you're in. In the Central Valley, it varies from 9a to 9b. You can find your growing zone using this map. It also depends on what plants you have, post some pictures and we might be able to narrow it down. If your plants are cold hardy varieties, they should have no problem in zone 9b (besides losing all of their leaves to frost, which will grow back in the spring), and in zone 9a, the main stem will probably be killed to the ground. It's possible to lose the fruit in both zones, so if a cold spell is coming you might want to protect the fruit. It is IMPERATIVE that you water very little during the winter, just enough to keep the soil slightly moist. If you do this, your plants should be fine.
