Former lurker
Greetings from New Orleans [9B]!
Found this site after one of the [at least 4] varieties of bananas on our lot began fruiting last summer. So far only the relatively small, red-leafed one has failed to do so. The others yield fruit that range in size from 1-2 to 6-8 inches in length. We've harvested the two larges types successfully to date. Quite a treat! We plan to focus on the largest [and best tasting], culling out the rest to provide space for transplanting desirable pups. We want more of their fruit and shade/privacy. I shall eventually post photos and descriptions of what we have, as I am interested in knowing what they might be. Currently in pots are Mexican papayas [from seed, currently about a meter tall and blooming], a ?keitt? mango from seed, two Haas avocados, a Florida-type avocado, several Mexican pineapples, and a plumeria. In the ground are a Key lime, a brown Satsuma, and a celeste fig [and a boatload of night-blooming jessamine]. The pinas and papayas will eventually go into the ground; perhaps the avocados. Currently reading up here on when/how to harvest the musas. Excellent site! Best, bill |
