Cool First time Banana tree Mom

Hello!

I live in Spring Lake Michigan and bought a banana tree in the spring, It was doing awesome until about 2 weeks ago when some of the bottom leaves started turning brown. I googled it and found that they need to be fed so I fed it with Miracle grow. Now the top leaves are starting to turn brown and it looked really sad today. I keep it watered but I do not water it too much - it gets full sun and really seemed happy until a few weeks ago. There are no bugs either. There are a few baby bananaa plants growing out of the planter it is in so I thought it might need to be transplanted but the container it is in is very big.The plant is about about 5-6 feet high and it is living out on the patio right now. I need to fix her before she gets really bad! Her name is Hanna Banana - yeah I know - original heh? LOL Any one have any ideas?

Nice to meet fellow banana plant lovers!

Has it spent all summer in full sun??? What kind of soil are you using??? Does the pot have proper drain holes??? How big is the pot???

How often do you water??? Try letting the soil dry out a little before watering again... I'd like to try to help, and you've given a lot of information, but we could use maybe just a little more... And maybe a picture would help...

I tried to post a picture but it will not let me copy and paste. I tried uploading a few as well but I do not seem to be able to do that from my Ipad. I will try to go on my computer later to upload a picture. Yes it is always in full sun. I used Miracle grow potting soil with vermiculite. Yes the pot has good drainage. The pot is about 14 inch square. I water every few days or when it is dry. It was extremely happy until a few weeks ago. It is about 5 feet tall and has more than doubled in size since I bought it in April. The leaves appear sad - they are wilting. They are turning yellowish brown with little brown streaks in them. I have been cutting off the bottom leaves when they brown but now it is happening to some of the larger leaves. It has 4 pups coming out - two larger ones and two smaller ones. I just learned I need to take the pups out but leave one pup and the main tree. Going to do that this week.
As soon as I figure out how to post pictures I will. Thanks for your help!

PM sent.

Welcome Miss Deb!

I saw the pictures that you posted on your deleted post dated today, 11:06 AM. If you like, I can post the link again here.

My observations of your plants: I think that your plants are suffering from over exposure to heat and sunlight. Try moving them to half shade and cooler area of your yard. Also, they look a little over watered. Allow the top 3/4" of the soil to dry out before watering them again.

Thank you so much Chong! Yes please post the pictures. I do not know what I am doing on here yet! I will move hannah banana to half sun half shade and cut back on watering. How do you post pictures on here? Do you just post the link? I see others post actual pictures and not links. Thank you for your help - i hate being a newbie!

Hi dlynch32:

I'm newbie too. Go to your profile page and there should be an album option to click on. Give the album a name and it should give you the option to upload pics to the album. I don't remember the link, but MediaHound should have sent you a welcome message with the link for uploading photos.

Hope that help.

Welcome BTW

Thanks! I did that but the browse buttons were grayed out. I do not think I can do it on my Ipad. Will have to start up the computer and try it then.

Thanks for the welcome!
