I'm Larry and I would like to say hello to everybody. I'm from Boca Raton Florida and I'm very new to growing Banana's. I received a Misi Luki Banana pup about 2 years ago and it's put out many shoots but no Banana's. This year I started fertilizing it on a regular basis and now I have my first bunch. I've attached a picture. When do I cut them down and how do you know when they are ready?

Hello Larry & Welcome to the Org. from the Sportsman's Paradise. :^) There has been a serious discussion on which kind of Misi Luki folks had, just search Misi Luki select, and read the thread. Should be similar to any other ladyfinger but I'm sure a Master of Banana's will have real input. :^) Congrat's on the Banana's :^)

Welcome to Bananas.org! I'm new to growing banana plants but here's a link that might help. The map at the bottom shows what members grow that type of banana plant.
Congrats on the bananas! ![]() Musa Misi Luki - Bananas Wiki

Welcome to the site! Your bananas look great! I believe the protocol on picking fruit is to wait till the first few start to change color, then you can cut it down and allow them all to ripen (eating them once they look ready). Looks like yours will need to fill-out a bit more, but you've definitely got a tasty treat on the way! Enjoy the site!

Depending on location and weather conditions they will be ready for harvest 4-7 months from the time the blossom opened. For me here in So Cal it's 6-7 months. Pitangadiego (Jon) recommends writing the date when the flower opened on the p-stem with permanent marker to help keep track. When they plump up and you think they are getting ready you can always remove a hand and bring them inside to ripen, or just wait for a few fingers to turn yellow then either harvest as they ripen or cut the whole bunch and hang it up.
