First Banana - Dwarf Musa
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on this forum. Woo! Bought my first banana plant at a local home improvement shop and it happens to be a Dwarf Musa. I've had it for about a week in the shade tent just to get it acclimated to my drier and sunnier conditions. Inside the store it was sitting on the bottom rack by all the other houseplants with virtually no direct sunlight - hardly any indirect sunlight. I plan to move it under my 40% shade cloth in a couple weeks. I don't want it to burn, so trying to take it slow. One thing I noticed is that all the leaves (right now) flop over. Anybody know why? I'm guessing it has to do with the low light conditions it was receiving at the retailer and the new leaves that will form will be taut. Anyway, glad to be here. Here are a few pics: |

Re: First Banana - Dwarf Musa
Mr. Jeff,
Welcome to the org. I can sense your excitement in your message. Great! As for the drooping of the leaves, There is no cause for alarm. It may be due to the moving from an air conditioned store location to a warmer, if not hotter, location with greater lighting. You are wise to move the plant to a shaded area and then slowly bring it out to direct sunlight in several weeks. I'm moving your thread to the Member Introduction section in order to allow more members to welcome you to the organization. Again, WELCOME! Chong |
