Enjoy Global Warming; Grow More Tropicals!
 

Hubby and I recently retired; both have extensive horticultural experience, mostly amateur but some professional. Finally gave up trying to grow traditional North American fruits (WAAAY too many hot humid loving bugs, diseases, and moisture, not near enough winter cold....) & realized the way to go is subtropical. Citrus of many kinds does great here, grown it for yrs, and now we'd like to get more into different bananas. Been growing a rather plain tasting variety of Cavendish for years, plus an ornamental or 2, but figured there HAS to be more of a selection in flavor, size, etc. Hard to find in local nurseries. Discovered this site today! Yeah! We have the soil, space, and climate, and looks like y'all have the info! :woohoonaner: The Daveys

You will learn a lot here. Welcome! Most people here would recommend Namwah for where you are. Cold tolerant, fast growing and tasty.(Or so I hear)

I live west of you on lake Toledo Bend. Namwa and Orinoco do great. Right now I have bunches on Goldfinger, Manzano, and Veinte cohol. VC has to be planted out in March. They will die over winter. Most any can be grown here with winter protection except the cold sensitive ones. If you already have success with cavendish your well on your way. It's one of the hardest ones for me here.
