How do you know if your banana plant is bearing edible fruit or is it just ornamental?

yo yeah when your plant has flower fruited and ripen just test it with yo taste buds, you can usually tell when your fruit needs to ripen more, but I have never heard of a poisonous/toxic banana plant! gOTTA Eat 'em aLL
