Dwarf Cavendish
Greetings fellow banana fans. I acquired a Dwarf Cavendish a little over a year ago. This is my first banana plant. I keep the plant indoors during the winter and outside in the spring and summer. I hope that she will flower and fruit this summer.

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
That's a nice looking plant. Looks much better than my dwarf Cav do right now. Even our relatively mild Southern California winters make them sad. Good luck with it.

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
I re-potted my Dwarf Cavendish as suggested. I still am hoping for bananas by October 2012. Miracles happen!

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
Thanks for your suggestion. I re-potted my plant as per your advice. I don't know if the pot is the size you mentioned, but it is the largest I could afford. I'm still hoping for bananas soon. Miracles happen!

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
Nice, very impressive plant!! In my opinion the dwarf cavendish and super dwarf cavendish are to of the best looking banana trees. They are very stout looking.

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
start hitting it with potassium! Bananas love it it will help in the final steps of the flowering,an you can double you load of nanners.I did a test a few years back an took two dwarf cavendish bananas an put them in the same pot an same amount of water an light, around the time it should have flowered i hit one with potassium because i was told that it helps the banana.at the time i was unsure about it so i did the test by adding potassium to just one of them.the first one i had 68 bananas an the second one i had 96 bananas.if you want a flower by the middle of this year go to any garden store an ask for some potassium an start hitting it!amazing plant by the way

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
Nice banana Tiffany! Are you sure it's a Dwarf Cavendish and not a Super Dwarf Cavendish? If it's a Super Dwarf it looks to be almost to flowering height :)

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
I purchased it from Gurney's, and it was labeled as DC. I hope it is DC, but I won't swear that it is. I think the short stature is partially due to over-wintering indoors. The sun light that entered through the window seemed to be closer to the floor than the ceiling. Consequently, my DC's leaves grew close together and stretched downward to catch the light. Now that I am putting it outside the leaf petioles are growing longer and the plant is extending upwards in the direction of the sun.

Re: Dwarf Cavendish
Good point; the height may indeed be a result of light reduction over the winter. I'm glad it's picking back up in it's growth :)
