Christine (Miss Chris)
Hello,
I am Christine but everyone calls me "Miss Chris" I have been trying to grow bananas for ever and have had no luck. I belong to the PBS and they sugggested your site. I live in the Philadelphia, PA area which is area 9, so you know it gets cold here. I would like to grow a plant outside in the Summer and bring it in the house in the Winter or grow one entirely in the house. I would really like to try my had at edible fruit but at this point I will accept anything. I am confused by the different prices of the banana trees and now they are using the old gas prices. The gas prices are much cheaper now so I guess I am looking for a bargain; does anybody knmow of one? Ebay has ruined my account for the past three years and will not fix it, so I am still fighting with them. Take care all and I am looking for some nice tips. Take care, Miss Chris in Suburban Philly, Home of the Philadelphia Eagles but I am a Dallas Cowboy Fan from way back. |

Re: Christine (Miss Chris)
Welcome Miss Chris, I'd recommend for starters since there a bit of time till warm weather is here to stay that you research several species you might like. Since you plan on bringing them in for the winter maybe some of the dwarf species (Cavendish, Nam Wa, Orinoco) might be good choices. banana-tree.com in Easton is a nearby reliable seller or maybe some members here can help get you started. Good luck( but never for the Cowboys!)

Re: Christine (Miss Chris)
Welcome to the Org. Miss Chris, I agree with Bob on the Dwarf types, for indoors and you could plant Bajoo outside and leave in the ground with protection for winter. There is wealth of knowledge on these boards with very helpful people. My wife is a Cowboys fan, I am a Bears fan, it gets fun when they play each other, otherwise we root for both. Re: Christine (Miss Chris)
Howdy from a former West Phiily denizen. Look around here; you'll find tons of excellent info. BTW, I'd also try growing Musa basjoo and overwintering it in the ground with mulching.
Mskitty- didn't know you were also a Skins lover!!

Hello and welcome aboard! I have a good friend who is a golf course superintendent in the Philadelphia area. Check out our Cold Hardy banana section and you should find a lot of good info for your area.
