Can't wait to make friends and gain wisdom!
Hi there everyone! I'm so excited to have found this forum!
I bought my first banana plant, a blood banana Musa alumina "zebrina " on a whim back in 2019.. needless to say with no knowledge on how to care for banana plants it was a very beautiful sight for a very short time. It was 2 years before I tried my luck again.. but that's for another post. I live in Oklahoma City, right on the border of zones 7a and 7b... so cold winters, broiling dry summers, stormy springs, no autumn to speak of, and windy all year round. Makes for challeging gardening! The only things I've really mastered are irises, hot peppers, and parsley =) I share my home with my fiance, a 1000 year old chihuahua, Skeletor, a perfect shih tzu named Paul, Oddjob, an 18month old pug/pekingese mix, and 3 cats: Baby Cat, the 3-legged brains of the operation, Scooty McGooch, the 3-legged enforcer, and Plunger, the 8 month old bain of everyone's existence and killer of plants. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, baking, and crochet. |

Re: Can't wait to make friends and gain wisdom!
Hi. I'm new too. I joined because this is the only site that I could make sense of the banana plants I see for sale at different online nurseries. I find it difficult to get an idea of how big each of these get and with the smaller varieties it isn't always clear if they'll produce edible fruit. Glad to have found this forum with all its information. You are a zone colder so you may have to wrap plants or use containers too. Best of luck with what you decide.
