Cali girl

Hello,
I am picking up three banana plants (one fruiting that is 5' tall with 3' leaves). I'm not sure what kind they are. The current owner is cutting them off at the base of the trunk because they are damaging plumbing underneath them.
Can I transplant them if there are no roots attached? What is the best thing to do to ensure they survive? I am in Modesto, CA so the weather is now high 90's and low 100's with night time temps in the 60's-70's.
Please any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If they are cut off with a large piece of the corm attached, yes you can replant it. It will regrow new roots. Just keep the leaves misted a couple of time each day.

It the stalk is cut off at ground level, no it wont regrow.

Post pictures of the plant before you replant and after.

Welcome to the Bunch.

You may want to mention to the current owner that cutting them at ground level will not really fix the problem. The main part of the banana is the corm which is just under the ground below the psuedostem. It will be the part with all of the roots coming out of it which is also the part you will want. If you can work it out I would bring a shovel.

This is a good guide on how to cut the pup from the the mother plant. Note the bottom of the corm is only about 10 to 12 inches below ground.
