basjoo banana zone 7/6 connecticut

if i get one of these bananas, could I plant it now? it gets down to low 30s and high 20s at night

welcome to the nanerexpress. you probably will get a small plant and it definitely will die. even a fully mature one I do not think it would survive. course that's my opinion and have never tried to plant a banana in where you live. but I believe I would leave it in the pot place it in front of a window on the southside of your house till spring. you probably will have near 3 ft of frozen ground in a month or so. I'm in florida and I have plants ready to go in the ground but I will wait till spring.

Most likely if you buy a basjoo plant online, it will be small enough that you can keep inside until next winter. It won't grow much either unless your house is 80 degrees and very sunny! All of my basjoo plants here in PA are covered with leaves for winter.....

Also, don't plan to keep basjoo outside unless the plant is fairly big. Perhaps 3' tall or bigger, in order to give it enough resources to survive a winter.

It would be wise to let it stay indoors until the last frost of next spring.
I doubt your little guy would survive the winter.

Hey Yankee, I was born in Yale-New Haven Hospital. Welcome aboard the Banana Express.

I have a sister over in Stafford Springs, and I have been trying to get her to understand she can grow Musa basjoo there!

Winter this one over indoors. Next year, bury the corm 8-10" and it should winter over okay. Gone are the days of digging 42" to get past the frost line. It does not exist anymore.
