Now if you got some specifics & golds as to what you are trying to accomplish, then we might can help a little. What is your location and growing zone?

The property is at 950' elevation at the top of the ridge between Sebastopol & Occidental. I would like to grow edible varieties. Plenty of sun and space for different sizes of banana plants.

OK ... some where in California ... What is the nearest large City that would be on a map? What growing zone are you in? ... Please update you profile to show your location. There are many members on this forum located in California.

The first message says w sonoma Co (I think he meant Ca) and he's near the redwoods and also has placed a marker on the map. What more do you want? He's about a kilometer east of a town in California called Occidental.

I appreciate your help. I'm not too e-savvy and had thought I had posted location according to the directions. Thanks for confirming it worked! Yes, the property is just E of the town of Occidental atop the ridge dividing runoff E & W.

Re: Bananas in the Redwoods?

Some prefer to see it in writing on your profile so it shows up under your name. You could go to user cp, then on the left you can update your profile and fill in the rest. Then everybody would be happy. It is easier to just look at the name of their town and zone under their name than to load the map and find you. I know I have read on here that San Fran is too cold for some bananas, so we will see...

Re: Bananas in the Redwoods?

Thanks Sputinc ... since I didn't know the name of the town I didn't know where on the map to look for his pin if there was one. I figured out he was in California from the redwood reference. ... Now may be someone from that area will reply.

Re: Bananas in the Redwoods?

I have found that when you click on the "find me on the map" thingie, it shows you their general area right away, so it usually doesn't matter the exact spot. I apologize if I was a bit snarky with my earlier post. I was being facetious, not mean spirited. I am never mean spirited unless you cut me off in traffic and then proceed to dawdle along in front of me. In which case, be glad you can't hear what I am saying. :D

Farmer Skip, if you're still here, edit your profile to show where you live and "jump" in to learn; find others in your area/zone and pick their brains. I'm gardening, trying to, in FL. I was a great grower in Yankee land but am back to square 5 here. (Some stuff is the same it seems so I'm not at zero.) Some successes and many failures thus far. *sigh*

Welcome!

Your weather is similar to mine, maybe slightly cooler in the summer. You should be able to grow Dwarf Orinico, Namwah, and Goldfinger, along with a few others. I didn't even lose any leaves during last winter.

Excellent! Thank you for your Bay Area insight. What is the proper season to plant them and where is a quality nursery to obtain them?

No problem.
I'd wait till spring. I bought mine from an online source as a tissue culture.
