![]() Hi banana folks! I have been waiting a long time to move to south Florida.
My wife's family have been down here since 1969, and my family has been here since 1947. We got so tired of visiting for 35 years that, after chasing the job to Charlotte, NC we decided to move down permanently. Tried to grow bananas for many years --- first in NJ, and then in Charlotte. Results? -- don't ask. Kept the dwarf Orinoco going for 30 years though, and it’s my most vigorous growing banana here in S Fla. I always dreamed of living in the tropics, and now, finally having the opportunity ----- I want it all; just like my uncle Frank had on his 10 acre ranch in SW Miami before it became a university campus. He had Appaloosa and Paso Fino horses too. And pigs, 50 or so black angus, chickens, guinea hens, ducks, mangos, tamarind, peaches, avocado, oranges, grapefruit, apricots, lemons, limes, etc, etc. When I was 14 we didn't do evening stables, like in the UK. We did evening rats, with 22 cal rifles loaded with bird shot rounds. Unfortunately, I'm now on little more than a quarter acre in Port St Lucie -- me and my bobcats -- and my bananas --- no pigs or cows. I'm home. |

![]() Welcome - I'm just south in Lake Worth.
I relate - back in Ohio in the early 60's, used to sit in a barn across the street with a pellet gun shooting mice and rats. My mom LOVED it when I would come home holding 4 big rats up by the tails to show her my accomplishments. Poor moms. Hunted rabbits, pheasant, squirrel all near the house. NOW it's the biggest mall in the area. I HATE PROGRESS HA HA Just be careful up in St Luice, you are just above the frost free line. Terry |
