Banana plant

Hello all,

I have a reasonable size garden but there are only two patches for growing things. We moved in the beginning of the year. I started to grow potatoes in the ground, tomatoes in grow bags and oblong pots, sweetcorn in the ground and strawberries in a pot.

And planted dahlias and sunflowers you can't plant everything.

I would like to know about banana plants.

kind regards
Jenny

Hi Jenny, welcome to the org. Reading through past threads and the Wiki should yield a ton of info for you. For specific questions feel free to post them. I'd also update your profile to show your location/zone so we can tailor responses to your particular gardening situation.

Nice Jenny 56, what variety of corn? If you can grow that bananas should be no trouble.

Welcome aboard, Jenny? Whereabouts are you? What zone?

Welcome to the organization Jenny.

41.6 N and 104 W is somewhere out west near Interstate 25? I don't have my atlas handy at the moment to locate it exactly. You may have to consider a stout Greenhouse or overwintering in a basement.

Good growing from 26 N. :2239:

First off welcome to the site! There are a lot of knowledgeable people here and great resources. What kind of banana do you have? My guess is that you will need to dig it up and bring it in during the winter (depending on your climate zone and the variety). Bananas are pretty easy to grow, so if you can grow all those other things I don't think you'll have any problems. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! People are very kind/helpful here.

Nice passiflora! Your poor hostas look like the bugs had an all you can eat buffet on them :( Great pics, thanks for sharing!

Wow, even your soil seems reasonably good, what pH is it? And what's the major compostition elements? You get me, ay?

I live in Bristol UK

I've sent some picture of my garden.
Not all of the plants i have planted myself.
The ones i have planted are the Strawberry's, Sweet corn, Dahlias Tomatoes, Potatoes, Sunflowers and Banana Plant.

I like gardening. When it's not raining

From what you just wrote, I already know the soil type. ;)
Good growing to you, Jenny.

It is a Musa Basjoo because i live in Bristol UK the Riverside garden centre said that it will only grow bananas in tropical climate and if i did get bananas it would not be edible so the next best thing for me is that i want to produce a flower because they say it is beautiful.

:03: If i take a sample of the mud along to a garden centre they might tell me what the PH and what elements are in the soil.

what are passifloras i must admit that i don't know the names of all the plants in the garden.

Do you know what the plant is over hanging the fence by the wood with all the flowers some opening up. Is that the passifloras.

Re: Banana plant

These are the Passifloras; looks like Maypops to me.

Re: Banana plant

I think it is passiflora caerulea

island cassie 07-07-2009 03:00 PM

Re: Banana plant

Yep - caerulea it is! Maypops ( P. incarnata) is less blue and more mauve.
