Another fan of the culture of the bananas.
I am Spanish and live several months a year in Cantabria, in the north of Spain. Here I have an estate with some subtropical plants. The climate is 9b, humid and with relatively low temperatures in summer.

Re: Another fan of the culture of the bananas.
Welcome to the forum, Jalon! Zone 9b should be great for growing banana plants. And definitely congratulations on the World Cup victory, viva Espana! Those final matches with Germany and the Netherlands were awesome!

Re: Another fan of the culture of the bananas.
Thank you for your welcome. I wait learns much of you.
I observe that almost you all are American. My wife also is American, from Ohio. The citrus fruits and other many plants are cultivated well, but not bananas of eatable fruit. The hours of the Sun are too small. This it is my challenge. Thanks to all. |

Re: Another fan of the culture of the bananas.
Dalmatiansoap, graces for your welcome, some day I will travel to Croatia since several friends have said to me that it is very nice.
Thank you Caloosamusa, I know a little Florida, since my fathers-in-law had a house in Orlando and have a good friend in Tampa. Jeffreyp, graces for your suggestion. The problem is that in Europe it is very difficult to obtain varieties. Thank you Cherokee greg, in California, you have better climate for the bananas. Jalon |

Re: Another fan of the culture of the bananas.
Very Nice Pictures. I don't know what your low temps are for winter, but a lack of selection hasn't stopped Ante. You have a very nice Homestead & yard. :^)

Re: Another fan of the culture of the bananas.
Thank you, Abnshrek.
The minimal absolute annual temperature, in winter, is between 29 and 33 º F. Habitually it freezes between 0 and 3 times a year. The average in January is approximately 45 º F and in July - August approximately 73 º F. The annual rain is about approximately 1200 mm. The major problems are the excess of water and dampness in winter and the low number of hours of the annual Sun. Now I have M. basjoo and M. sikkimensis 'Daj Giant', as well as Strelitzia reginae "Mandela's Gold", very small. And I am hoping that there come two M. rajapuri and two M. Ice cream/blue Java. |

Nice make your aquaintance Julio!
Lovely home & landscaping! I too am from the South Western Ohio Valley, near Wilmington, Ohio. Currently I reside in South Central Texas, Zone 8a. You have done wonderfully in growing your Musa so far, I wish you much success with the fruiting bananas! Good to have you with us here! ~Cheryl

Re: Another fan of the culture of the bananas.
Thank you very much, Cheryl.
I do not know Wilmington, but yes Columbus and Dayton. My wife is closely from Cleveland. There we have family. Pardon for my English, but the disadvantage of having translator in house, it is that every time I speak worse the English. Till now, I have had a little free time. Now I want to try to be the first person who obtains fruits of banana in Cantabria. I wait to learn very much in the forum. Regards Julio |
