Bananas Quarterly!!!

I noticed that the banner for Bananas Quarterly has been removed and wondered why my subscription for this year was cancelled. Who can fill us all in that is interested in the magazine on what is going on? I know, I for one, really liked the idea of the magazine and the first years issues and want to know what is happening with it!!! I also would do whatever I can to help save it if it is in trouble...

PLEASE FILL US IN!!!

Hi Randy,

At this time, everyone who subscribed has gotten their Volume 1 fulfilled and all subscriptions have been canceled as there probably will not be a Volume 2 for a little while.
This way everyone isn't paying for something they are not getting.

The thread will get very dark and ugly from here forward and I really hate to have to bring this to the surface and for public discussion, however I feel as if its my duty as Founder to share with our community what transpired and the reason for Bananas Quarterly to be placed on hold at this time.

We've been discussing this today in the magazine contributors section. The main situation is that our now demoted editor, Lorax (Beth), had unfortunately chosen to (attempt to) take the magazine into her own hands and divert the subscriptions to her own account without my approval nor permission, and all the while ignoring my messages to her for many weeks. The final straw was when I noticed subscription payments were going to some other account that was not approved to accept the payments. Beth actually changed the signup links to go to her account and not the normal account that was supposed to receive them.

It is my position that Lorax (Beth) attempted to assume ownership of a magazine that she was initially a volunteer for (and was compensated nevertheless) to be the editor of. She asked me if she could keep 100% of the proceeds of the print version (as well as back issues). I expressed my strict disapproval, to which she ignored and proceeded to do regardless.

This was Beth's comment to me, and I am copying and pasting:
"Whether it continues as Bananas Quarterly, or whether I split it off into a new thing entirely, depends on what you want to do about it."
she continued:
"If people want e-ditions only of the current volume, that stays at $20 and goes to you. If people want print editions as well, it's $40 and comes to me. Back issues of Volume 1 also come to me."

I don't think so Beth. You are a thief and a back stabbing snake. Everyone who subscribed or contributed (or both) deserves an apology from you for your horrendous behavior.

For those and some other reasons, the magazine is on hold status at this time and if we take it up again, there will be changes in how it will operate as far as "checks and balances" go. Shame on you Beth.

My deep gratitude to the entire troupe of magazine contributors to date. Without all your dedication to producing the magazine, we would have never gotten this far and finalized a Volume 1.

If you're a contributor looking for more intricate details as you so deserve, there's also an ongoing thread in the contributor's section.

If anyone would like to discuss the situation more with me, I'm available as usual here on the thread, via email, and via the Private Message system.

Regards,
Jarred

Thanks, Jarred. As tough as it may be to put it out in the open, it's probably best to just have out with it and and be done.

Way to step up to the plate and be proactive. I think everyone appreciates that.

Thanks for your support. Airing things like this have been against my ways since day 1. But I owe it to you all to share what happened.

Thanks for everything you do for us, Jarred. I know running this site must take more time than you'd like at times and I feel bad for all you have had to go through on this.

Spring is around the corner and soon we can be focusing on more pleasant things like flag leafs and nanners.

What a shame for any forum it has to come to problems of whatever kind,....time after time,...
Hopefully things will resolve a bit and the magazine will be maintained.
Thanks for all the good work to everyone who did so!
Kind regards,
Remko.

Re: Bananas Quarterly!!!

Over the past day, I have found out there are several people who contributed to the magazine and were never granted access to the contributors section. If anyone reading feels they should have access to the contributors section here on the forum, and never got it, please let me know so that I can enable your access.

My heart really goes out to the contributors who have worked for so long writing articles for the magazine, taking pictures, entering our photo contests, doing research, etc... all for this wrench to be thrown in to put it on hold while we regroup and repair.

You know, we have a saying: "It's not fear, unfortune or disaster that divides families, it's money or women." This seems to be a very unfortunate situation. :( Friends and/or family usually stop being friends/family once the money is involved. With an exception of clans of course. Usually the less money is involved, the worse consequences it has.

How do clans handle those situations?

They teach children since very early childhood to rely and work only with and for the family (sometimes using even so absurd theories as eugenics). The bigger the clan and the more money it works with, the less its members are tempted to work around and behind other family members. Their numbers, skills and later also financial possibilities combined can't be matched by groups smaller and less organized than their own. And from some point they have so much of everything, that generations of their family can live their entire lives without having to work. It's all about discipline and hierarchy. Even the youngest will get to the top one day, but they will have to learn what generations of their ancestors pass on as heritage before they can go to the top.
Should any member of the clan act on his own and endanger other members, he's expelled from the circle and the clan makes sure that he will never achieve anything in his life, dooming him to what he would have to go through hadn't he been born in the lucky family.

Forgive My ignorance, but is bananas.org not run like a society with a president and executive etc....so over see various functions of the society. If not, maybe it should be started as one so that their is clear responsibilities and accountabilites etc....just a thought. I understand most garden clubs are run that way...it does not stop the politics but it certainly makes everything more transparant...any thoughts?
