Default Banana forum announced world wide!

I am a subscriber to the world wide list and here's the announcement that I got:

Liu, Pascal (ESCR) to banana-forum-l
8:28 am (2 hours ago)

Dear Subscribers to the Banana Forum,

You will find below a brief text sent by Jarred Cohen who has created www.bananas.org , an electronic forum for individuals who want to share information about the cultivation of different varieties of bananas.

Kind regards

Pascal Liu

The material posted on the Banana Forum does not necessarily carry the endorsement of FAO. IBS is dedicated to increasing awareness of the banana plant as a food source as well as it's ornamental use in the landscape. We have an active community of people sharing tips about growing and identifying different cultivars of banana, sharing photos, as well as trading banana plants.
Several people have met up with each other and visited each other's collections where bananas.org was the catalyst. We plan to offer more organized and prepared meetups in the future.
Currently there are two staff members, myself, and Gabe Sachter-Smith. We currently have several hundred members of the society, from Australia, Denmark, the UK, Japan, and South Africa to name a few.
Bananas.org is based out of Davie, Florida. Bananas.org contains many ongoing discussions about bananas, banana care, banana identification, recipies, members from around the world. We have an extensive photo gallery, member map, and other resources for banana growers and enthusiasts.

Yep.
Thats from FAO - the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
I'm very grateful to Pascal Liu for sending it out. Hopefully it'll ping some folks who'll be good additions to what we have happening here.

Some info about the forum:

Banana Forum

The Banana Forum service is provided by the Horticultural Products Group of the Commodities and Trade Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The aim of the network is to exchange information on developments in the world banana industry and to discuss social, economic, trade, environmental and other relevant issues in banana production and trade.

The Banana Forum service is free. However, members are expected to enhance the scope of the network by supplying information at least once every six months.

The Banana Forum is not intended for private companies to use as a vehicle for undertaking market research or to promote their products.

The contributions in the Banana Forum, including those made by FAO staff members in their personal capacity as members of the Forum, do not necessarily imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of FAO.

To subscribe to the Banana Forum, send an e-mail to mailserv@mailserv.fao.org, leave the subject blank and then put the following in the first line of the message:

subscribe Banana-Forum-L

You will receive a welcome message and from that moment all messages posted on the Forum.

In March 2002 there were 50 subscribers to the Forum. Past discussions in the Forum included a discussion on GM bananas and a discussion on the future market for specialty bananas.

Mitchel, Anna, & of course Joe - thanks to all of you & everyone else. It wouldn't be anything like what it is without all of your contributions and time to stop by every now and then.

Moving forward, just wait till you see what's being setup now! You will really love the direction we're taking.

Like they say, it's a labor of love.
