These seeds are free for the asking, don't understand why it listed as "Auction"!!! Over the holidays, I am planning on harvesting the seeds from my Trachy mom!!! She has put out quite a few seeds this year and I am willing to share with anyone that is interested. These Trachies endured 6F several nights last winter with quite a few other nights in the single digits, with NO protection. As you can see in the first pic, the male on the left took more damage than the female, but both have done well this summer. If any of you are interested in trying some of these seeds, email me at TnTrops@yahoo.com and put Trachy seeds in the subject line. Hope everyone has a great holiday!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice seeds! Mine was loaded with plump seeds this year too. The first time for my female trachy to flower. Yours is flowering at a little shorter height than mine. Can't go wrong with trachycarpus. They are great palms!

She has about 6' of trunk..., 12-24-2009 13:57
Nothing to use for scale so hard to realize how tall she is. She does seem to have stiffer than normal fronds. Both male and female produced seeds last year, but the male seeds were minimal... I think he figured out over the past winter that he was a male, so he concentrated on male flowers this year and did not produce any seeds...

That palm has a load of seeds! How long does it take to get to that height from seed?

My personal guess would have to be about 8-10 years from seed. I have several at different stages from strap leaf one year olds, to ones just starting to trunk to 3' of trunk to these. Very easy to to germinate from seed, but like most trunking plants, patience is a definite virtue. This is one of the main reasons I got into growing bananas along side palms. Bananas satisfy my need for major growth, versus the slow but sure palm growth!!! LOL
