Can anybody ID?
Planted back in early Feb/2009 about 3ft tall.
Present height about 12ft tall.
I was told by the lady that gave me the pup, it was Plantain..?
Do i need to wait for the fruit to find out?
Thanks.

PS EDIT:Sorry for double posting!

Hello ,
Can anyone take a wild guess? .. So I have a starter link to search.

*It keep growing .
*no flag leaf .
*4 new full leafs / since last post a month ago Oct/13/2009 new leaf come out p
*Pseudo stem is more cream green /pink (just like the pic show) rather than green /red
*2 little pups just come out this past month (it a sing of fruiting? I don’t know)
*Petiole wing is pink/red
*Petiole and midrib are also cream/green.

Let’s see … not too familiar with all the terms!
Thanks

The name Musa paradisiaca is invalid, but yes...it is looking like a plantain banana, but keep posting more photos as it develops. A plantain is a specific type of banana which belongs to the Plantain Subgroup with an AAB genome. Generally they are used as cooking bananas, but not all cooking bananas are plantains. Not all AAB bananas are plantains either.

It looks like a False Horn (a type of plantain) which for whatever reason did not develop properly. You can tell it is a French Horn because of the small amount of hands and present, but degenerated male axis. Perhaps the next bunch will be better.

Wait...FRENCH horn or FALSE horn (or is it the same thing??) Eyes confused now!

Very beautyfull banana you got there Emily!!! Congratulations!:woohoonaner:
I hope the fruits mature well for you and the pup gives you a second bunch relatively soon!

Btw,what is the name of the tree touching the inflorescence? I was seeing it all the time while i was in South Florida for vacations this Easter and liked it but didnt get to find any in fruit unfortunately...

Wait...FRENCH horn or FALSE horn (or is it the same thing??) Eyes confused now!

False Horn, although I suppose its also possible it could be a French Horn, its hard to say for sure since it is not properly developed. These are just general types/forms, not specific cultivars.

NOTE: the one on the far right is a "Horn", but the bananas.org mark covered it.
