I decided it was too dangerous to wait any longer, so I dug up the bananas that I had planted around the top part of the property. I now have several pups that I can seperate from this years growth.

I was looking out the window in my bathroom and the landscape looks different without the bananas. I can't wait until they can safely emerge again in the Spring 2010. The tallest banana was given to me, and it grew about 3+ feet this season. Does anyone have a guess of what it might be? I thought it was a Dwarf Cavendish.

Hi Michael!

I'm not sure on the type of banana, but lucky you having such good growth on your plants!
I'm busy bringing mine in too. :) ~Cheryl

cheryl,

Next Spring I have some Ensente, I am planning to add to the landscape. One of them is a Snow banana that I grew from seed.

Awesome Michael!!

I've not had any success in growing bananas from seed, what was the method you used?

Thanks for sharing in your successes!! :) ~Cheryl

Cheryl,

I first soak the seeds for 24 to 48 hours, then I use coco coir for the medium. I place them into small plastic container (deli containers or I like the small heavy storage containers you can buy). I keep them on a heating pad ( if you are using one intended for sore muscles make sure it doesn't have the new auto off feature.) I keep the haet at 75-80 degrees. Make sure the coir is kept moist.
