Hello all! New to the forum and the world of bananas and happy to have found this great site. i have a couple of questions regarding some recent local acquisitions. 1st is a plant sold to me as a cuban sweet plantain; haven't been able to find anything under the search, wiki, etc. so any guesses?

2nd plant same source given to me as a dwarf red but i am pretty sure this is not a dwarf red... my guess is a high color mini but i would like opinions from folks more experienced than I

I can tell you the second plant is not D. red. Check out Encanto Farms for info on the plantain.

The second looks like a form of Cavendish

2nd picture might be a TRULEY TINEY.

it would be a mini or high color mini most likely. Does it have a really stocky stem? Also is the stem red or green. Dwarf red has a red stem. #1 could be anything as far as I'm concerned...I don't have a lot of experience with plantains.

Was taking some pics recently so I thought I'd share the update. This is the "cuban sweet plantain" No fruit yet - this plant had a bit of a rough start and I had to move it once but its slowly coming along and now has a pup. I'll post more pictures when it decided to flower.

So the "cuban sweet plantain" has now fruited. Any further guesses on what this plant specifically is would be appreciated - if it is even a plantain :ha: Fruiting height was about 12 foot

So after a couple months the fruits are pretty small still - what does everyone think - plantain or banana?

Plantains are just a type of banana, but you don't have one. It looks to me like 'Namwah' which is common in your area. Commonly any banana which people cook with tends to get called a plantain, but it really doesn't matter. You can cook with it or eat it ripe, it is popular both ways.
