Late yesterday we had an annular eclipse. I think the sun was reduced by maybe 85% at peak here at my location and I didn't notice anything other than darkening but I didn't make any big effort either. My sister is further north than me and closer to the peak coverage and caught this neat image in your back yard while doing some gardening.

Neat, we saw a partial eclipse here until the sun went down. I read that Tokyo, Japan or there around that area was able to see the whole thing.

I have in my other gardens but this garden just has them, not sure how or why? I've never seen an egg case in the garden but I've seen several Praying Mantis. I'm thinking they may be hitching a ride on some organic plant starts from Hayground. I just saw another one yesterday in my Cilantro patch. Could have been the same one though.

Went to a couple friends houses (they live next door to each other) in Venice Beach yesterday for a Paella cook. Tons of great food, wine and desert but the Paella was the star.

Chorizo, chicken, mussel and clam Paella cooked on an open fire which makes the bottom nice and crunchy. So insanely awesome!

And this one is fun for all you capable of normal convergence....look toward your nose till you see THREE images. Then study the middle image and see if you can get it into focus (hint: if you converge too far, you'll see four, so try to get the inner-most two images to merge into one). Yes, it requires some oculomotor skills (convergence, fusional vergence, etc etc), but it's worth the effort! See if you can do it....you should see a 3D image if you can!

On the Cheerios FB page they made an app that people could use to make words in the cheerios font with the piece of cereal for dots and periods. They asked people to tell them what they thought about cheerios. Bad idea after spending so much money to stop prop 37 in CA. They were slow to remove them from the album to.

Tony ---- I recently sampled some yellow fleshed papaya at my club's tasting table. It was great with no nasty aftertaste that most paps have. The guy that donated the fruit also put a few seedlings of this variety on the raffle table. Had lots of tickets so I stuck em all in the cup. Won the 4 pk of this plant and now am trying to find out where I can plant this large a plant. Want a seedling?

Until now I was resigned to never finding one that tasted good. Most papayas, to me, taste like something that fell off the back end of Lassie!

The one I tried did not have a bad taste it was just not really that good. I think a good honeydew melon is much better than any papaya out there. Nice tropical looking plant but fruit no thanks.

I'm sold. Gonna save the next fruiting trunk to grow veggies while it's still cool. The PK fruit should be ready soon. Just have to get a 2 to 3 inch paddle drill bit.

Dan you have to be joking.

Just use a thin gauge 2" metal tube and a hammer.

If you sharpen one end of the tube, it will work better.

You can always use your drill to remove the piece of pseudostem from the tube or just use a stick.

The metal tube sounds good. I'm a power tool freak I guess. lol

At least I will get to use the Delta 8" bench grinder wheel to sharpen it. lolol I've had it for 25 years. One end has a wheel and the other a wire brush. Use it all the time for things that rust up here in S Fla.
