Sand crabs for bait ?

Yeah that one was on a Sand Crab, about a dime size with roe on a C rig with #6 Mosquito hook, 8lb mono, 3/4 oz sinker, no red bead above swivel. It was about 14-15 inches and hefty. I pinned the digger on SC so it wouldn't dig in.

I'll have to get some as I'm almost always going to CR. So far I've only killed a couple of micro Halibuts.

That use to be my middle name.I would go before work and work began at 7am.Here is what I found to be a good way to catch cobina.Lite spinning reel 4 to 6 pound line,#6 circle hook and a splitshot about 12 to 18" from the hook. I remove the diggers or just give the sand crab a squeeze to disable it.I wait for a set to come in and as soon as the water starts back out cast in the line and let it go out with the receding wave. They will usually pick it up on the way out.You only need to cast like 10'. Try Ghost Shrimp sometime there are large Spotfin swimming around out there

It's my new Canon powershot SX230 HS with 12 megapixels and a 15 zoom lens. I bought it around the same time I bought my DSLR Canon camera. It takes a decent shot and I always have it with me because it's so small.

Used to be able to walk out to the pier, but too many teenagers used it as a drinking spot, and many were swept away from high powerful waves. Some would dive off the pier for fun and be taken from the undertow, so now it's closed off and you can't walk out there anymore. :(

Carry some jigs .like mister twister curly tail grubs. If you are lucky enough to find a ripe current this can be one of the best places to fish.Toss out the lure let it free spool till it stops and real it in.You will be amazed how many fish can be sitting in the holes caused by the rip.

All my years of surfing have helped me locate structure and understand rips. Last time out I told my fishing buddy "watch this, there is a hole right there" casted right into it and pulled a nice YFC out!

Your making me want to dust off the fishing equipment.I know of one spot with some large rocks that can be reached at low tide. There is a big depression right in front of the rocks. The halibut will come in on high tide and just sit in there even as the tide goes out.Cast out a frozen anchovy work it as slow as you can across the bottom,when you think you have snagged your bait it's probably a Halibut. They will grab the bait and just hold it won't move till they fill pressure on the line. Pretty exciting you never know how big it will be.That's the spot I stepped on my first and only Stingray.

It's still summer and the water is nice! Get to dusting man!

I've stepped on many and been stung once. hurt like a sob! Lifegaurds had me soak it for about a half hour in super hot water. I've heard you can pee on the area and that is supposed to help stop the burning pain.

Think you can locate the Hali rock on google? I've got relatives down there that want to go fishing with me. I've been reading that Lucky Craft lures are really good for halibut. Big Hammer swim baits are good too.

The rock is about 500' or so North of Scripps Pier. All those lures work good when they are actively feeding.When there just sitting in their holes they can't resist a dead anchovie drug in front of them.
I would see one guy at the rock all the time.I watched him pull seven Halibut out of one spot no bigger them 20x20'.

Most were legal but that's still pretty small.He said he has pulled some large ones from the hole.This spot was legal to fish a few years ago,not sure now.

Aren't we thankful for digital camera. I remember buying 35MM by the case, and then the developing costs.

I noticed there were post-processing options in photobucket, where I load my pics anyway. Thought it seemed easy and accessible for now, until I get used to doing this kind of thing.

So many different ways to manipulate pictures. You gotta love it! I made this poster today too of a shot I took when I first arrived here...

I've had trouble locating any fishermen, but tomorrow morning I'm gonna go over by the pier at 11 when the fishing boats come back in with their catches. Hopefully there'll be some good pics to get...

Sky glory vines are one of my favorite flowers. Mine just started blooming last week and it has a ton of buds! The weather is getting cooler here, but I still think it will continue to bloom well for a few more weeks!

Im really happy that the tropicals are still doing well outside, I just wish that they had more time to keep on growing well, but with a forecast in the 60s for the days and 40s and 50s at night, its not looking like great weather for growth and blooms on most of the tropical plants.

Do you mean cosmos will lose their color as days get colder? The cosmos I saw in Golden Gate Park fascinated me, but another cosmos plant at Stanford University had tons of ants on it. Do yours attract ants, too? I did try germinating red cosmos seeds last year with no success. I'd like to try again if they don't attract ants. Thanks!

Picher, Oklahoma

This is a pile of chat that has been blown into ragged formations from the wind. You drive through this ghost town on Hwy 69. No warning signs are posted that I noticed, and I thought these mountains of chat we very beautiful in an eerie sort of way. You can get right up to them and dig in them or take some home if you want as the fences are down everywhere. Curiousity got the best of me and I checked this town out when I got back home! I was shocked to say the least, especially since if I had more time I would have brought some of the chat home with me. Thank goodness I didn't. Even the air is contaminated when the wind blows.

Side note: My Grandfather worked at this mine when he was young and died from lung cancer.

Don't underestimate these innocent looking little fellas. They're "White Habanero" and they are said to make one feel as though the back of their head is going to explode! The yellow one will be white soon. Bob got me the seeds.
