Great news!!! I just received an email from my high school biology/ecology/botany/all life sciences, and he will be coming down to visit on Sunday!!! Haven't seen him in over 25 years and can't wait!!!! He is THE most inspirational person from my past that showed me the wonderful world of science!!!! He and I have been emailing each other for almost a year, and today, he asked if he could come see my yard before frost. I hope I will do him proud!!!

Well, my all time favorite teacher came today to visit and look around the backyard. He was in heaven!!! I think he might even have gotten the hardy palm and subtropical bug while here. No, I did not let him go home empty handed!!!! Quite a few bunch of seeds and a couple potted plants. He even brought me an agave he picked up from NM a few weeks ago!!! Agave ferdinandi-regis!?!?!? Nice looking agave, but I don't know a thing about it, yet!!!
Just thought I would share the highlight of my fall with you folks. He made the most lasting impression on me then any other teacher I ever had.
You would not believe what all he has done since teaching and how he is living his life now. Lives on Monteagle mountain on a 1200 acre land trust with a few other people!!! Off the electrical grid and only uses solar and passive solar heat, but does have a propane back up... Will be travelling to his place come spring for sure!!!

Here is a link to his website. Sells some of his artwork as supplement income.

Thanks for sharing, and for the pic. His work is fascinating. Amazing how much a favorite teacher/professor can mean to you. I had a biology professor for Invert Anatomy that I think of to this day, and I don't want to tell you how many years ago that was. I'm really happy for you.

He is interested in learning more and I printed him off a list of places to check out and this site was the first on the list!!! He is wanting to try to get a "grove" of basjoo up on the mountain on his land trust, so I will be taking him all sorts of plants come spring!!! He kept on about how nice it was to see so many bananas grouped together. He occasionally sees one banana plant here and there near his home, but never so many together!!! Looks like we may have another "banana freak" someday!!!
