I was looking at some bananas from T*-T* and in the ornamental section they have red ensete(Ensete maurellii) listed and also red ensete(ensete ventriosum) I thought the latter banana (ventriosum) had totally green leaves..top and bottom with a red mid rib?????

LOL! Yeah, I wouldn't use that website as a resource for accurate knowledge. From everywhere I've seen, EV are all green with red midribs like this:
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=3451&size=1&filefix=.jpg
And EVM has red coloration all over like this:
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=1718&size=1&filefix=.jpg
There might be some variation within these classifications (some EV may have more red than others and some EVM may have less red).
Looking at their site, they say 'Red Stripe' and then call it a 'Maurelii' and they say 'Red Abyssininan' (which should be a maurelii) and then say 'Ensete Ventricosum.' So yeah, I have no clue what you'd be getting in EITHER case based on the pics/videos on their website.....VERY inconsistent. Again...I would NEVER use TyTy as a resource for information.

no single Business in the history of the Org has garnered more negative comments then Ty Ty every new generation of of users finds out pretty fast that they are a scam they funny thing about it is that if they would spend the exact same amount of energy on good they would probably be one of the best marketed nurseries in the world
I don't know who owns TY TY but it has to be a foreign person the hummer in it is just so out of this Continent thats all I'm saying one has to be PC even in the face of fact

LMFAO...I WISH those were my ensetes! Unfortunately, my maurelii was a fastidious little b*%$ and finally crapped out a couple weeks ago (after looking pathetic all its life). I'm not sure how so many people have these beautiful ones! I took care of mine equally well to all my other naners and it always just looked putrid.

Ensete ventricosum is a very variable species, personally I have two plants, one of them has a red midrib, the other one is totally green. They came from two different batches of seed (different suppliers). In Africa were they come from, many varieties are described. I think we are only just beginning to understand this, and examples are Ensete hibina, maurelli, monty ect are examples of this.
Kind regards,
Remko.
