That is very interesting to know! I've never heard of these cv's. My favorites that I grow of Casimiroa Edulis are:
-Vernon
-Pike
-McDill
-My own cross "Perfection"
The worst ones I've tasted are:
-Maltby
-Suebelle
-Mac's Gold
-Wilson's
I have tasted a wild Sapote when in Mexico which was amazing, and i brought back about 15 seeds (2 fruit), and they are growing well and about 5 feet tall, but not yet forked or fruited.

Don't know what I have, but I just planted a white sapote a few days ago. Of course, I got it from Home Depot. :ha:

there's a 99.99% chance you have a Suebelle. Though it does fruit fairly easily, you shouldn't think that's what a Sapote is supposed to taste like... It's kind of like an over-ripe mango, or like an over-ripe Papaya. The best quality Sapotes usually have a slight honey flavor mixed with a vanilla egg custard, and some vary with tones of lemon, pear, and apricot.
On the other hand, a (wrongly named) Black Sapote (Diospyros digyna), which is actually a member of the persimmon family, and not the citrus family, tastes like chocolate pudding. However, before everyone rushes out to get one, I can attest that unless you have a greenhouse big enough to grow a 15 foot + tall tree, you're not going to have any luck growing it, since it is a very close to being true tropical, needing full sun, and complete death occurs at around 30 degrees F.

The 2nd fruit listed, "Sapote (Manilkara zapota), named Sapodilla by the Dutch",
is it the same as this Alano sapodilla?

I have an Alano sapodilla tree in my yard. Even though my tree is too small to bear fruits, I've had many "Alano sapodilla" fruits, wonderful sweet flavor. Can't wait for mine to bear some.

Wow, that's nice. It looks so much like the Mammey, and those are strict tropicals. I know they won't make it through some winters in San Diego. Do you have yours in a greenhouse overwinter?

We'll see how it does, I just bought it 2 weeks ago, from a nursery in Riverside. They have many tropicals. A few Alano sapodillas have been in their backyard for 3 years. The one I bought came in a 5-gallon pot. I'll plant it tomorrow. I also bought a green water apple plant, he picked off a green water apple fruit from his tree, great taste!

More accurately, 'Alano' is a cultivar from Thailand. The Sapodilla (Manilkara zapota) is native to the Americas.
Attached are two articles on the Sapodilla from the USDA archives, one from 1888 and the other from 2002.

Richard;
I have the Alano and Sylas Wood sapodillas and enjoy them immensely.
What is the difference taste wise compared to the white sapote.
My white sapote is head high but has yet to bear fruit so I am very curious.
I also have the Black sapote and I know what they taste like.

The white sapote is in a different family of plants (Rutaceae) and tastes very different. The taste expectation of banana X pear is not too far off.

Hard to say then. McDill is that size, but so are seedlings.

Yeah! Now that we have some hot Santa Ana weather, they might actually ripen on the tree.

From soil line up 2" it does look like Avocado bark. The reason I question if it's Sapote is that the leaves have 7 lobes and the Sapote seedlings I have have 5 lobes. I guess this difference could be because their seedlings ? If that makes sense.
