HI! Just joined. My name is Ysa. I bought a Musa cavendish 'Super Dwarf". It said to transplant it after a week in the house. I did just as it said. I put in a pot one size larger than the one it came in. It seems to be have been growing fine, but I noticed that the bottom leaves would turn brown and die back. I seem to have about 3 new leaves coming and they seem fine. Do I have a problem and what can I do about it. Please help. Thanks!!

Welcome to the site! Hope you enjoy it here. SDC are great plants! I have one and I really like it! As far as the bottom leaves turning brown, it's natural for bananas to lose a few of the lower leaves as they put on new ones. I'm sure it's fine.

Welcome aboard, Ysa :) ! I'm not sure how much you know about banana plants so I'll just give you a few pointers.
Bryan is right. After transplanting, some leaves will die off. There are a few things to understand:
1. Banana plants Luv water but Do Not like being soggy. Give them lots of water But without making the ground Real muddy.
2. When you can stick your finger in the dirt & it's dry, that's the right time for the next watering. Also, make sure the soil-mix your using allows water to drain off fairly quickly since banana plants dont like sitting in the same water for more than a couple of days.
3. Make sure there are plenty of holes, in the pot, for drainage.
4. If you use a fertilizer, sprinkle it around the plant once every 2-3 weeks. The best mix is a 2-1-3 Ratio since bananas like 1 1/2 times as much potash as nitrogen. If you're not familiar with fertilizers, the #'s are for (in this order) Nitrogen-Phosphorous-Potash (or Potassium).
5. Cavendish bananas Luv lots of sunlight. However, best to reduce the light, for a few days, right after transplanting.
Hope this helps out :). It's a friendly & info-packed forum with lots of specialists. If you have any questions about using the forum (or anything else), just ask.
Good luck & enjoy!
