Amazing growth this season! I'm glad to see the musella is growing well. Maybe you can get some flowers from it next year. Great job getting the Orinoco to flower too!

WOW! Excellent pictures! Your gardens look SOOO beautiful! Very well done, indeed! And BTW....I'm really jealous of your E. maurelii....mine is such a fastidious piece of crap and never looks right for some reason (think it might be too wet, but I can't exactly tell it to stop raining, huh?).

Thanks to everyone for all the nice compliments ...

Austin , I am looking forward to a bloom on that musella next year for sure ...

Bob , glad I could help :ha: ...

Bill , the temp in the basement is generally between 50 and 60F ...

Randy and Bill , the tiki bar is progressing but , I am going top hold off thatching until next spring . I figure no sense in exposing the thatch to winter weather before I get to enjoy it for the summer .

Here is a pic from a few weeks ago . The rafters and fascia boards are now all on and I am installing some lattice that the reed fencing I am using for thatch will lay on . There will be bamboo around the base of the bar and a pine bar top .

Rick, I bet you a banana plant that you will get a bloom on your lasiocarpa by late-summer next year. :)

I had one bloom all summer long for me. It opened in the spring and never ended until this week! Then, another flower opened up on another large musella just last week. I've had non-stop musella flowers this whole growing season!!!!

Rick,
Like I said before, you really have done a awesome job! It will be really nice next year to mix up some cocktails under your tiki hut. Well done!!! Your butia is looking great there such a cool palm, much easier to protect then the washys too.

When do you start digging up your none hardy nanas before or after frost? I need to dig up a bunch up here. My 15 foot orinoco with its 9 foot trunk should be nice to carry down to the basement. Ouch my back already hurts thinking about it, the trunk on that one is fatter then a milk jug.

Thanks Bill , I think last year I waited until after the frost . That's what I am going to do this year for sure .
Do you have to carry them down steps ? That would really suck ...
I have a walkout basement so I have a cart I built for rolling them around which makes it a little easier . Also I have vowed to not let the clumps on the orinocos get so large . I have been cutting pups and replanting them all summer . Now I have a lot of single stem plants which are much easier to move and store . I still have 2 large corms that had fruiting plants on them this year but , after I cut the fruiting psuedostems off they shouldn't be too bad to move either .
The tiki bar grand opening will be in the summer 2010 so , if you are ever down this way there is a Corona with your name on it ... :bananas_b
