I've seen that before on sale either at Costco or Home Depot but I thought I can not grow that in my zone for its tempt sensitivity.

Could that be a Butia eriospatha?

I have no idea. Maybe Phoenix rupicola

Maybe a Kentia palm. Where is it growing?

I think that might be Kentia too. Howea foresteriana.

Maybe a Kentia palm. Where is it growing?

The palm is in my yard here in San Diego. It does look similar to a Kentia palm

I was thinking Kentia, too. Not a Phoenix, nor a Butia.

THat looks like a very nice looking tropical plant. Wonder if I can grow here in zone 9.

It is a good looking palm but they got to go. I need more room for banana plants.

It would be a shame to remove it. Kentias are quite attractive and cannot be grown in many areas of the U.S. But of course it's your yard to make your own, and I'm a palm nut. You may want to post the picture at palmtalk.org for a positive ID. There are people there who would be glad to remove it for you and the palm would not go to waste.

I agree with Tony, but I do think we take things like this a bit for granted. They are in every Dr's office, Office park, Drive up Restaurant and Hotel entrance. Very basic plants around here. I'd probably do the same thing, since a Kentia doesn't produce anything... lol

Kentia is also a great indoor palm

After looking at some palms at Home Depot it turns these are Majesty palms.

Cold HardyPalms lists Kentia as zn 9b-11, recoverable damage at 25 F. Queens palm, Syagrus romanzoffiana, is listed the same way but has been planted along the north Gulf Coast for several years now and so far I've seen no damage here in 8a/b. I found some Kentia at Target, but at 40$ for a knee high 3 gallon pot I passed. So far nothing at Lowes or Home Depot.

Majesty: bluish-green petioles, lacking any fiber

Kentia: brown fiber on base of green/brown petioles

Your right my palms have the fiber at the base of the petioles. Has to be a kentia palm.

Whenever I spot a very tall specimen in a yard, I can't stop turning my head back to look back at it. I think its a hideous palm compared to others (King Palms for example), but its such a rare palm to see outdoors and grabs my attention so much. :S Its like I only see one or two every so often in a field of a million boring queen palms.

This plant was in a 5gal container buried in the ground for ten years. When I replanted it I put it in 15gal in the ground because of the underground utilities.

Kentia is a really beautiful palm, and one of my favorite palms. Unfortunately it can't grow in my area because it's too hot during the summer here. It would be hardy in my area though.
