I have eaten some of the smaller fruits that fell off and these ones are getting bigger by the day! The taste is really nice and sweet with a mild honey flavor and little to no stringy fiber.

I'm not sure Benny. I did cover it the year we had the arctic freeze. My neighbor right behind me has a full grown mango that produces a lot of fruit. She battles with the squirrels though. I know she doesn't do anything to protect it and it's been there for a very long time! It must be at least 17-18 feet tall and maybe 15 feet across. My tree is only about 5 feet tall now.

Thanks! I know it won't grow in my area. Just a wishful thinking. I am jealous.

You know..........you probably could grow it under the pergola. Just keep it shaped to the size you want. :) You should do some research on the most cold tolerant variety. I know the Haden is said to be good for So Cal.

Gorgeous Mitchell - I hope you have had as good a mango season this year as we have - it has been exceptional and sadly just coming to an end!

I'm not sure what cultivar my mango tree is, but it's been in the ground for over 2 years. I think it's a dwarf, still pretty short, about 4' tall. I get new leaves all the time, flowers a lot, but no fruits, the tiny fruits all fell off.
momoese: is your tree in ground or in pot?

It's been in the ground for 4 years now. The first two years I pruned off the flowers right after they set little tiny fruits hoping for more growth. Last year I let the fruit set, but between the weight of the flowers and the fruit the stems all flopped over leaving the bottom of the leaves exposed to the sun which did quite a number on them, not to mention breaking one of the main branches completely off where it had been grafted. So this year I supported every branch to keep them upright. Not only did it it make fruit but the leaves stayed healthy too!

Yeah, my tree is in the same shape that yours was, too many branches too low to the ground, I didn't think to cut off the flowers when they bloomed. I just pruned back some branches this morning, hoping for better growth soon.

Thanks for the encouragement JaNan and Mitchell. I might try it one day when I go to San Diego and buy one that is fruiting already. And Want them All is in the same zone I am so if he can grow one in his yard maybe I can too.
But I read somewhere that at certain temperature maybe 50 that it will affect fruiting. And perhaps growing. I don't know for sure. I'll have to do some more research on this.
Beautiful Mango tree, Mitchel, Luv Mangos! And those sound like they have some really exceptional fruit. And thanx for all the great info, too! Very jealous, wish I could grow one here.
