Hi everybody,

just found a banana with blossom and some fruits on a street in Thessaloniki, Greece. The city lies in zone 9a. so it's possible, but not common to see bananas around here. The microclimate seems to be okay, because it's 30 m (100 ft) from the sea and protected by high buildings from the cold northern winds.
If you giys could identify this plant for me and it's something interessting I would go there again and ask for a pup. The plant is about 2,5 m (8 ft) high.

Thanks

Bernd

Thanks, this "basic" Musa is still missing in my collection. I'll go there and try to get a pup.
But, I thought they we're bigger?

But this mat is being grown in a planter box.

Basjoo to me too. The planter box will have stunted them some.

I thought it's in one of the usual spaces in the sidewalk where the trees grow, because it looked like this when I took the pics yesterday. But it may be limited, because it didn't grow that high. Last winter was mild with little freezing (max. -3° C/26° F) just a few days and no snow.
I'll definitely go there and get a pup and try it myself in the ground.

Thanks to all for ID
