Thanks, but I don't see photos of any large variegated musa in your gallery, just the black.
My Ae Ae pups are too small at this point to remove to send you one and I'm afraid they may succumb to the cold winter weather in a few months. I'd love to see you give TC of Ae Ae a try, though.

I can help you out with some seeds or a plant of velutina. The plant is about 30cms high so still quite small. Not sure if it will make it to Indonesia.
Do you use your organic medium when propagating these variegated bananas? I'm really impressed with your results.

My biggest is about 30cm but I'm hoping for it to get big enough to remove and pot up to save it in my greenhouse as a back-up in case we have a cold winter. The others are very tiny and hardly moving, not really sure why....

You are great, Novi. Each time I visit these forums I get a bit more convinced that there are still nice people around. You are very helpful.

Great job novisyatria!
Do you have problems with phenolic extrudes? If so, how do you deal with it?

for variegated bananas and generally, there is no phenolic problem. phenolic compounds i see for black banana. the media become black. what i do is do subculture soon. if normally subculture 1 month after initiation, i do it 2 weeks after initiation. before the media become black all and its can be poison for explant.
the second problem solved, i try add active carcoal 0,2 gr/liter media. and so far the result is good. phenolic can be reduced.
hope can help all you with this information

Thanks Novi!
I have a phenolic problem with Musa Basjoo. I used ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and that helped a little but not enough. Haven't tried activated charcoal yet.
Phenolic extrudes only happen about the third multiplication with these. The first two times it's not much of a problem. I'll have to start tranferring to new media every couple of weeks. Oh what fun that will be:-)
I love your setup. The compact florescent lights look nice and neat. You sure pack a lot of jars in there. Impressive!
May I ask what gelling agent you are using? Looks nice and clear.
Thanks again Novi!

I am using agar-agar that we can eat and can buy it in market. no special agar. this kind agar is cheap and easy to buy. if we can do TC with something
cheap and easy, so there is no reason why have to use expensive one.
in My home lab i use second hand jars, second hand culture rack, etc. even not all material is second hand. but i can reduced cost of TC.
