To post a photo, you must get the url (web-accessible path, something like http://www.bananas.org/images/editor/insertimage.gif) to the image on your computer's clipboard. To do that, right click the photo you wish to post, select 'properties' - then in the box that appears, you will see the url (location) of the image. Double click that link to select all, or drag your mouse across it to highlight it, then copy that link to your clipboard with a Ctrl+C or another right click and select 'copy'. Come back here and type out your post, then click the little icon that looks like a mountain range with a sunset. It looks like this http://www.bananas.org/images/editor/insertimage.gif Thats the tool to help post images. It will prompt you for the address of the image, it's already copied to your clipboard. So Ctrl+V to paste it in there (or right click and select 'paste') and presto, your image is ready to post. Preview your entire post to make sure it formatted everything properly before you click submit.

Another way is to paste the URL to the image and surround it with [ img ] (means open image) and [ /img ] (means close image), like this:
http://www.path-to-your-image.com/image.php?image.gif
The sunset image tool basically streamlines this same process with the [ img ] [ / img ] tags.

Hope this helps!

If you want to test it out, try and copy this code and paste it in a post to see what happens.

http://www.bananas.org/images/bananas.org_logo.gif
Should show up like this:
http://www.bananas.org/images/bananas.org_logo.gif
Another example:
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=8
Should show up like this:
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=8

Can we resize the images in the code?

Apparently not

Mike,
Unfortunately, you can't specify image dimensions when posting pictures.
The images will only show up in their native dimensions.
HOWEVER, the good news is that our photo gallery will do some resizing for you. The site will A) create a thumbnail of your image, B) resize it so it shows on the screen without overlapping when people view the gallery, and C) save it in its regular size, the way it was uploaded.

I saved your picture to my hard drive, then uploaded it to your gallery. Here's what we have now:

http://www.bananas.org/gallery/data/500/thumbs/bananaharvest6.jpg

http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=344&size=1

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that we could do it in code since I don't always upload all pics to my gallery. For other purposes - ebay etc., it is nice to not have the bananas.org watermark.

Another way to easily post images
if you have Mozilla, Sea Monkey, or any other flavor of Netscape / Firefox -

If you are on a webpage that has the picture - such as your gallery here,
drag your cursor over the image(s) to select it(them) then right click and select "copy" (or hold the control key and hit c to copy) to your clipboard.

Then come back here to the posting page and put your cursor in the post message box and hit ctrl+V to paste whatever is on your clipboard into the message.
Viola.
This is probably the easiest and fastest way to post images.

I have not yet tested this method with the Internet Explorer browser, it may even work with that (if not now) by the time you read this.

New feature to make it even easier to post images! :drum:
To post a photo from your gallery, visit the page with the photo, and underneath it, you will see a box like this:
http://www.bananas.org/images/bbimagecode.jpg

Place your cursor in this box, right click and select "copy"
now you have the code perfectly formatted to post in your thread
Just visit the posting page where you want to post your message,
place your cursor in the wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor (the window where you type your message), and either click Edit -> paste
or hold the Ctrl key while mashing the letter V (Ctrl+V) to paste your image code.
Now click the preview button.
You should see your image appear in the preview. Now, if you are happy, click to post your message, or click to keep editing and previewing before you post everything the way you like it.

I've just modified this to now also include a link to the photo as it appears in the gallery. So all your images that you post using this method will take people who click on the image to the gallery, where they can view more photos of yours, or they can click the keyword for the photo to see even more photos of the same type of plant.

Check it out,
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=670&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=670)
bam
click that photo of AnnaJW's Kru

under the photo on the page that appears is some code, like in this image
http://www.bananas.org/images/bbimagecode.jpg
(thats what you copy to paste into your posts in the forum)

AND under that is an area showing this:

Keywords: Kru (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=all&si=Kru)
Click it and find more photos of "Kru".
So now when people see your images on the forums, when they click them, they have the ability to dig even deeper into the site to find even more related photos. Or they can do one of many other options for research once they land in the gallery.
I think this "Keywords: Kru (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=all&si=Kru)" feature may be overlooked, or that it's just not used as often by so many folks. When your on a photo, try digging into the keywords that are displayed. Have fun with it!

Hope you enjoy the new changes!

Here's a video I made for Aquarium Forum on how to post pictures in your thread:

Posting Pictures Tutorial - AquariumForum.com (http://www.aquariumforum.com/posting-pictures.php) Hi MediaHound!, This is Mauro Gibo, I still didn't get it, how to post pictures in the forum. I'm computer illiterate! Sorry, I'm wating for my son to help me. But as he is always busy working I have to wait for awhile. Thanks anyway.
Until I get the knowlege of posting pictures I continue making videos to show you guys my plants and a little bit of Japan. Here is video I made for Richard:
Dailymotion - Food for the Birds, Japanese Persimmons, a video from mauro-gibo. kaki, caqui, Japanese, Persimmon, birds (http://www.dailymotion.com/mauro-gibo/video/x78lft_food-for-the-birds-japanese-persimm_news)
I think Richard is interested in air layering the kaki, Japanese Persimmon. Here in Japan it grows, blooms and bear fruits everywhere. It was brought to Japan centuries ago from South Korea and North China. We propagate it by grafting, but its growth is very slow. I planted many grafted seedlings in my orchard about 7 or 8 years ago and they are still small. I will try to air layer them here, 'cause we got the proper climate just like its natural habitat. Thanks. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

instead of Code for bulletin boards:

You really helped me with posting the "right" pictures but now I have an issue where I can not seem to upload some of my photos. Are there any restrictions as to where you can upload from?
I can upload pictures from my camera no problem but if I try to upload any archived photos from any of my computer files, flash drive, cd/dvd disk etc it will allow me to browse and open the file. It will also allow me to upload/submit and even tells me that the upload was successful but instead of going to the second page where I can select and process, it takes me right back to the Banana Gallery image upload page. When I check my photo gallery, no new photos have been uploaded. I even experimented by trying to upload two photos - one picture from my camera and one from an archived computer file. Of the two, only the camera picture was uploaded.

What I am doing wrong? :(

then uploaded to bananas.org with regular process
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=52791&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=52791)

second was : 2736x3648 - file size >2400 k
resized to: 1024x1365 - file size now 370k
then uploaded to bananas.org with regular process
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=52790&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=52790)

Your "link" shows me that your image is still sitting on your computer's C drive; you have to upload it someplace on the WWW because, unless you've got some whacko spyware working in the background, you're the only person who can currently see your picture. Photobucket or some other photo posting site is one way; another is the gallery on this forum. Explore your gallery here; all of us have one. You can upload images easily there. Once it's "on the Net", you copy the code which is the new address/location and paste it in your thread. I'm terrible at explaining how to get the "link" information but someone else will do better I'm sure. Or if you say you have an image in your gallery, they'll post it for you.

I would say you are not compressing your photos for web pages
if you got a good camera that is probably the problem you are only allowed a certain size format here {5200k }so it has to be compressed

... Would you mind giving me detailed instructions on how to make a new post and attach pictures? ...

It's a two-step process, perhaps best performed in two separate tabs on your web browser. First, you upload your image(s) somewhere. Second, you create a new post and insert them.

1. somewhere.

It could be one of many image hosting sites (https://www.google.com/search?q=image+hosting+site&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS608US612&oq=image+posting+&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.6743j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8). After posting your image there, copy the URL of the image (instructions are usually found on the site).
It could be here on bananas.org, but heed the warning that space is limited. I down-scale my photos, usually to 720x540. To get started, click on the "Photo Gallery" link in the blue bar near the top of the screen. Then on the left-hand side click on "My Photos". Now on the right-hand side, click on "Upload Photos". Click the button(s) titled "Choose File" and upload one or more images from your computer. Enter a default title. Press the "Upload/Submit" button. A new page opens, and now you must press "Process". On the next page, you will see and icon of your uploaded image (and perhaps some of your other images). Click on the mini version of your image. In the display that opens you will see your image. Immediately under your image is the text "Code for bulletin boards:". Click on the coding in the text box and copy it.

2. insert. Create a new posting. In the text of your new posting, in the location you want the image to appear:

If you obtained your image from an image hosting site, then look above where you are entering text at the editor buttons and find the square with the yellow background depicting two mountains (http://www.bananas.org/images/editor/insertimage.gif). Click on it. Paste the URL from the hosting site in the box and click OK.
If you created the image on bananas.org, do not click on the insert image box but instead just paste the coding in your message.

I hope this helps!

While in iphoto send the pic to your own email. Hopefully you know how to use the share feature. In share photo your choices of resolution are small medium or large or full size. Choose large . That cuts the size of your pic from megs to kbs. The bananas system does not want megs.It wants small files-kbs--In your own email drag the photo out to your desktop----- you can park it there or place it in your doc folder. USE THIS RESIZED PHOTO FOR YOUR UPLOAD. NOW DO EVERYTHING THAT H20 HAS LAID OUT AND THIS WILL WORK. I hope this makes some sense as an iphoto workaround.

Thanks. I would have never succeeded without you!!!

how do you post photos from an iMac? or apple product?

At the top of the forum page click on 'photo gallery'.

Then on next page in 2nd header bar at far right click on 'upload photo'.

Use the upload links to the forum photo gallery. You can also upload to other data servers such as Photo Bucket. I have my own server.

**Take note of this page and specific note of file limits. Most cameras and phone cameras take pictures much larger than the 5200 kb limit. Either resize the photo to a few hundred Kb or reset the camera to take smaller photos. .... I use Corel Photo to resize my pics to 4" X 6" paper size & 150 dpi (dots per inch). This make a photo file size of few hunderd Kb which is very fast to load. Other photo programs can do the same and I believe iPhone can do the resizing on the phone.

To post the image in a thread use the BB code '___URL___' without the single quote marks and no spaces. Use google for BB codes if you need more explanation on how to use or other codes to use.

The upload page has a 'help link' as well as a practice page.

short answer..

resize the pics to small... try that.

There are a few workarounds with Mac.

For me it is easier to do a image hosting service....free so far......

Does anyone know how to resize photos in the BB script? I used to code HTML like 20 years ago, and I know there is a way to do it. The pictures I upload from Flickr come out huge.

Hi all,

I've uploaded some images to my gallery but when I click on one (thumbnail), the image doesn't show. It does show extremely long codes for bulletin boards, html sites and wiki but when I use them, the image does not appear. Please help!!

Your screenshot images might be too large.

I just tried your pics and get the same thing.

You have a thumbnail, but you have no image to use when you choose the html code for the post. Hmmmm

Here's what I've discovered:
The initial images were screen captures and are png files, and they don't show up. Then I uploaded the original images and they do show up. However, they're placed sideways. When I use the editing tool to rotate them, an error message says "This page isn’t working. Bananas.org - International Banana Society (http://www.bananas.org) is currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500". After that, the thumbnail images don't show up.

Did you see and click on the red box that says process? If not, they didn't really go thru. Probably because they are too big. try to get them down to about 1 meg in size each and try again.

I don't disagree with sputinc, but suggest reducing the pic size to 300 to 450 Kb. This will increase the speed the pics load up for the user/veiwer and increase the number of pictures by 3 Xs that can be stored in your limited storage space.

Many paint programs can easily reduce a picture's size. A free one called paint.net, if you need to download one. ... Reduce by setting the print size to 4" x 6" and the resolution to about 150 to 200 dpi (dot per inch). This size will normally fill the screen without having to use the sliders and still be very clear for viewing. Simply save the reformatted picture and then upload.

How to post an image on Bananas.org

So here's what I do:

1. Click on "Photo Gallery" on the blue menu bar near the top of the page ... Immediately to the right of "User CP".

2. Ok, now you have 2 blue menu bars, the original and (below an advertisement) a second which on the far right says "Upload Photos". Click on that.

3. Now you're looking at a two-column layout. On the left, notice where it says "Select the photos you wish to upload from your computer". To the right of it, click on the highlighted button that says "Choose File". Select the file you want and then click on the "Open" button-- or whatever on your device. The file name should be displayed to the right of the "Choose File" button.

4. Down at the bottom of the two-column form you'll see a button that says "Upload / Submit". Click on it.

5. Now you are looking at a page with two large buttons that say "Process" in red letters. Click on one of them.

6. Finally you get to a page that shows you images you have successfully uploaded. Click on the image you want to include in your post.

7. Underneath the image you see 3 text fields, the 1st of which is labeled "Code for bulletin boards:". Click on the text in the box ONCE. Now copy it, either by right-click on a Microsoft Computer or whatever means you have on your device.

8. Now travel to the post you wish to use the image in, and paste that text into your post.

9999. Take a moment to appreciate that 20 years ago this was the latest and simplest way to post an image in a bulletin board!

After some testing with different size of pictures ( 2.4Mb; 2.06 Mb; 1.99 Mb), it appears that maximum upload picture size is 2.0 Mb and not the 5.20 Mb stated in the upload instructions. See post http://www.bananas.org/f2/donetta-48511-2.html#post317707 for more detail.

Also, should you make an upload, get a notification the upload was successful but DO NOT get another page with a Red Process button; Then picture will not be processed into the Gallery. ... The upload was to the forum processing software, but because of size or another problem the picture was not placed into the Gallery for use.

Also, I believe the forum photo processor will resize large photos to a smaller forum standard. The 1.99 Mb photo I uploaded was down-sized to 97 Kb. If this is true I see no reason for the photo size upload limit (unless there are other software limitations).

I used the image tags and inserted the URL link to the image file. ... The problem with flickr is the image is hidden from visitor/guest. May be for the registered user (you) the link is given below the picture. However, the url link you posted is a referral page and not the image. That will not work with the img tags

... I had to find the image link in the webpage source and the java script to make the post above.

Your on your own there. ... On most mobile phone the picture is too big and an app is needed to reduce the size. ... On some phone the is a setting to limit the picture size. This might be easily changed as needed and it may not.
