Of course this is the wrong time of the year, but it's put out one leaf lately that's only 3 feet long, and the next one rolling out looks even shorter. It's probably the "world's oldest ice cream" that's never bloomed at 4 years old!
How big is a flag leaf usually on an ice cream? really small like a bordelon or larger? I'll post some pictures on my gallery asap.when Planted:

Hey I got to looking, I guess it's not four years old. This picture of it was taken in 2007, and it was a year old then. So I guess it's only three! Time sure goes slow when you want a banana to bloom in Indiana!

Thanks for the great pictures! Blooming or not it's a very beautiful plant! Kinda sad it waited this long (and till this time of the year) to bloom, huh? It's especially exciting to see it bloom in a pot! Hope mine will bloom someday (or year LOL)...but who knows.

I agree with you Sandy. A couple more leaves and you will see a distinct flower emerging.

Big Congratulations Sandy. It figure and I think all of us in the north should assume if and when we ever get a bloom it will come in the fall!:ha: At least you have the green house and hopefully the equipment to bring it in. If not a group of men will usually work for a few cold ones and an offer of the fruit!

Is mine I got from you last Sept about that age? You had said it was 7' and cut it for shipping , it's now almost 8 feet and the pup left on is almost 7. The base about half way up is noticeably swolen......of course I could be a victim of wishful thinking.

Bob, I think your ice cream is a year behind mine. I think it was about a year old when I sent it to you, that's why it was so big before I chopped it. We are definitely taking this one in the greenhouse again, we can move it with the hand truck, so we can get this one in. I'm glad it didn't grow too tall this year since we chopped it down to 5 feet last fall.
My neighbor told me he'd pay me a dollar for a real tree ripened banana. (and laughed) And the lady at the farmers market said she'd change the rule from no bananas could be sold--to "locally grown" bananas only for me. Of course we laughed, but who knows? It might really happen!

Thanks Sandy, it's funny I know very well how good all my chopped plants did and now I'm agonizing over doing it for the first time myself..........I guess I'll just dive in and do it..........maybe after a beer to brace the system:ha:!

Fall isn't that cold here. Its usually December if not January before you start seeing temperatures less than 40. I've seen 90's for Chrismas. Still planning on planting one banana sometime this week. I will just winterize it in December.
