Hi everyone I've been posting for a couple weeks but thought I should do the intro thing...
I'm located in the Northern part of SC - 10 miles from the NC border in a small town called Pageland (Charlotte NC is the biggest city of any Merit nearby).
I love the idea of creating a garden of hardy tropicals- this is my first year with Bananas- But I like Palms, Gingers, Cannas and basically anything else tropical or Unusual.
My wife is Colombian so and I loved our last visit- and want to great a little of that here. If anyone ever visits Colombia don't miss the Parque de Cafe (Coffee park) it's full of beautiful plants.
On a more business level, I help my father run a leather business here, we make all sorts of leather goods, and are one of the few businesses still doing manufacturing here in the USA. I think it only makes sense to produce things here- it's impossible for an economy to be based entirely on services, and unless something is changed jobs are going to keep leaving. If it can be delivered in a container ship or over a wire, it will be outsourced- unless something is done to discourage it.

So far this site has been a great Resource.

Welcome! :woohoonaner:

Historically over the last 3500 years: when the standard of living rises in the source country then the peoples are no longer willing to work for low wages. When locations of cheap labor are lost, then the value of skill rises. China now outsources to Burma and Africa.

That's true- though we don't see prices drop as dramatically as the wages have in those countries. If a $30 shirt now costs $2 to make instead of $5- the company doesn't lower the price to $15 they might lower it to $27. It's all about more profit.
What's crazy is even radiologists (folks who examine x-rays) are losing jobs to outsourcing-
It's sad the people view working with your hands as "low" work.

Eventually- it comes back when we can't buy the outsourced goods.

Welcome from NJ mbfirey. I'll have to go check out your leather site. Ever make any bow quivers?

No, never done bow quivers- mostly hats, wallets, bags, checkbooks, money clips, etc.
