Lowes only has 2 of 'em left, at $18 each, couldn't turn down that deal. Measures 35" from soil level to tip of leaf. I guess one could never have enough banana plants, so what if the fruits are not edible. :ha: The leaves look very nice on the label.

Those aren't red Abysinnian in your picture. May be a case of mistaken identity. Google it and check out the pictures. You may very well have fruiting bananas. ~JaNan

Um...just FYI, those are definitely NOT red abysinians (or any Ensete variety for that matter). They look like super dwarf cavendish to me...but definitely some sort of Musa, not Ensete. They look like beautiful and healthy plants though! Take care of em!

Yeah, I agree that it looks like SDC. Its definitely Musa, not Ensete.

Not much of an expert on ornamentals But, whatever they are, Looks like a super deal for only $18 each :) ! I'd put the pics in Banana Identification & call Lowe's, though. More ya yell at people like that, the more likely ya are to get extra free plants :) ! Anyway, that's been my experience.

Hopefully the experts here will steer me right. Here is the label on these 2. Near where they were placed on the rack, there were 4 other SDC, labeled Musa acuminata "Novak". You've all seen the yellow C-shaped info label for them. Anyways, the "absynnians" definitely look different than the Novaks. Now I'm not so sure what I bought. :ha:

Yeah, that is not what you bought. That's a good price and they do look very healthy, but you could return them if you wanted to. (I wouldn't though) Looks like one has a pup too. Abysinnians don't pup. I believe you have Cavendish family bananas.

I'm not gonna return them. Already planted. No sense in digging them up. Oh well, hope they'll turn out well. I already have a potted SDC, and was kinda wanting to put it in the ground. Guess I got my wish.

Here is a link that Jarrod had posted in a previous post. It is from the Wiki here:
Here's the wiki page for the Maurelii, everyone is invited to add some information to it:

Lowe's plant labels are always wrong. Even if the plant is ID'd correctly, the cultural info is often wrong (ie, hardiness). For example, they were selling a Washingtonia robusta that was hardy to 40F. Yup...
