View Full Version : Bad time of year for sun

My next door neighbor south of me has a HUGE tree that is blocking all my sun now that the sun moves further south. I do get some direct sun thru my south facing skylites in sunroom, but pretty soon I won't have any sunlite till all the leaves on that tree fall off. Plants are still outside & won't come in till just before first frost which could be in a month or so. Maybe this is good "conditioning" for the plants for winter? Gradually getting them used to less sun? There is a huge horizontal branch on it that I keep wishing would fall over from a big storm but, no luck there so far.
From now thru October I will not get much sun (till leaves fall off)...same thing in April - but opposite...when leaves start growing, I won't get sun till it's about directly over the yard.
I once killed a tree by drilling holes in it & pouring Roundup into the holes...was easier to cut it down. I'm wondering if there is way to shoot Roundup into - at least that big branch, from my yard :ha::ha: Any ideas? (I never liked this guy anyway - for stalking & harrassing the hell out of me for years)

A new neighbor (2 doors down) just had a huge tree taken down
They had a big bucket truck come in
The crew also went around the entire perimeter of the yard & cut back EVERY tree limb that was hanging over their property
I asked my other neighbor how he liked his new daylight
He hasn't had a lot of sunshine in his back yard for decades maybe
He's happy - glad the new neigbor took the tree down
I trim all the trees I can around the perimeter of my yard
Instead of a chainsaw I use a sawzall - lighter & blades are easily replaced
Here's 1 tree - had 2 large trunks - that's a 32' ladder fully extended

Ya know, it's not like I hate trees - I love them, but this tree spans over 70 feet & shades more than 3 lots /backyards! Plus, the idiot planted more trees under this big tree - 2 pines & a plum. Who would plant a tree under a tree? People plant baby trees too close & then they grow big & crowd each other & they end up cutting them down. You can make shade but you can't make sunlight!!!
Dave, your new neighbor is a smart man! (uh, person)

Its not like it gets hot enough up there to need any shade.. @ least that's what my better-half says.. She's freezes her buns off everytime we go up there to visit my vast cheeshead family. lmao

Speaking of first frost, we just had ours in Central Ohio overnight. Down to 33 degrees. Luckily brought all the plants in over the weekend with the 600 Watt HPS. Looks like it may be a long cold winter this year.....

Yeah, we had some frost away from the lake last 2 nights. Too early for that. This was an unusually cold summer. I don't remember frost this early!
Hey Bucko (love that name - you watched Happy Days huh? LOL), it does get very hot here in summer, & very muggy. All this summer humidity has been 70 - 100%. Those patio umbrellas get very popular for some shade. But, like I said, you can make shade but you make sunshine.
