Being in Zone 5, is it advisable at this time of the year to still divide pups and plant them in the ground...or just leave them on the mother plants and just cut them down when you cut down the main plant for the winter! :02:

The second choice is the correct one.

I've potted up a lot of pups the last few days, although everything is coming inside. Still warm and dry around these parts...

I would say if you have room, separate some pups and keep them alive during the winter indoors. Otherwise, don't attempt to remove them and plant them outdoors to over-winter...I doubt they would make it. Also, do you ever try to keep any pseudostem protected to start off larger the next spring? I'm from zone 5, so I realize this might be a pretty pointless thing to attempt (and you MUST have basjoo if you're overwintering anything in the soil at all). Just wondering if you'd tried keeping some pseudostem preserved at all....worth a try at least.

So yeah, bottom line is either remove/pot them to bring inside over the winter, or leave them on there. That's my two copper Lincolns, anyway.

leave them until spring and then dig up the whole thing even if you want to and separate it.
