I purchased what was supposed to be a manzano banana plant from banana tree.com. Later, most who saw it did not recognize it as manzano.. Also, I tried contacting the company and got no response.
Now it is in bloom.. and it does look like it is manzano(by the size). However, I am not sure and won't be until I've tasted them. Can anyone help me identify it?
Sorry about the poor quality of the photos. I don't have a ladder at the moment, so I can't get up high enough to get a good shot. The fruiting plant is at least 32" around at the base.. and is between 15-20ft tall.
Here is the tree just as it started to bloom...(one week ago more or less)

Yes I mean the Pstem. I got the measuring tape out and it is indeed a little bit over 12ft tall. I was way off on the 15-20ft estimate. Sorry. :)
Im hoping they are manzanos since I prefer them over cavendish varieties. I sure wish I had gotten into bananas before... I would have had at least 10 different varieties. Oh well.
Quick question... I noticed your in Miami, FL as well. Where did you get your manzano plant from? I searched every local nursery I could find... but had to resort to purchasing it online.

SM,
I also prefer a Manzano over any other Banana fruit .They have a unique, tangy-sweet taste. Much less bland than our common Cavendish type. Some eat them a little bit less brown if you like the tart flavor, but you must wait beyond brown – until the skin is black – for the highest sugar content ,which will give you a fabulous, multi-dimensional bite.
The Manzano variety is not grown here any more,They are Susceptible to Panama Disease.Anyways, your plant is looking good:bananas_b
