They were really small last year too.

Some of what I've gotten from him is pretty nice sized for TC. Others have been rather small. I roll with it tho. I keep mine under a 16 hour light for a couple of weeks. When they've put out a couple of new leaves and are gaining some vigor, I pot up to a 1-gallon pot and let them enjoy some filtered sunlight. Once they're nearly pot-bound, I'll either pot it up or plant it out and give it the light it'll live in the rest of its days, depending on the season. I've yet to have any of his fail on me - and so long as it grows, it'll get big, right? Just gotta baby it some because there's not much corm there for extra latitude...
Be well,
Mike

I also found that they can not handle any direct sunlight and are very slow growers. Mine is about a foot tall now, if that!

I just got on here to post the exact same thing. I would be embarrassed to sell someone a plant that size. Mine looks just like the pic above but at least it is straight. I gathered it would be like in the picture. I have to go check the listing to see if it states that it ISN'T like the one pictured. I was looking for the plant all day and it didn't show up, then I went and got the mail and there it was in a 3"x8" flat box in the mailbox. I guess this is the first time I will not give a seller a great review.

I received this particular plant along with several others, and Im perfectly satisfied with it. The seller did say it would be sent in a 3" pot,and thats exactly what it is. Ive gotten many other bananas from this seller, and they have all grown wonderfully. If Im not mistaken, the price was $9.99, not $17.00.

I just took a photo of what I got today, the Namwah is on the far left. Its the smallest of the 4 that I got, but seems perfectly healthy and if my other nanners are any indication, it should grow well and quickly.

Frank and Terry.. I bought a couple of plants about that size, about that same price but had seen pictures beforehand. Was happy with them.. how they were packaged, and still happy... just wish they would grow a bit faster. Just looked at the calendar and I've only had them about 6 weeks. Seems longer! Dwarf Namwah is a fairly slow grower, isn't it? Maybe you'll both be happier when you see some growth.
Maybe like Mike, you can "whip" them into shape! :2719:

If you are satisfied with your Purchase that is absolutely fine, but I am NOT!!! Look at the Plant he is using as a Representative of the Plant (On this same Auction) you will recieve! This size Plant for $17.00 is a Joke!! Yes $17.00 Plant was $9.99 and $6.99 shipping for this one puny plant equates to $16.98 !!

Frank, while I agree that the plant they are shipping looks much smaller then what they advertise, just give it a chance. Where else can you even get one these? I can't even remember what I paid for mine last year,( I'm sure it was more than ($9.99) but for me it was a rare plant that was not available anywhere else and that in itself made it special to me. It also presented me with a real challenge in keeping that little **** alive! I am a little bummed that I don't really have a great place in the garden to plant it but at the death rate of these things I figure if I can just keep it alive and get some size to it, I can then sell or trade it for something that better suits my space.
BTW, this is the only TC I have ever bought so I never even questioned the size.

Here's what I got a couple of weeks ago - they're about ready to pot up now into their one gallon containers and will outgrow those pretty quickly too.

I knew I was getting smaller nanners - so was not surprised or disappointed. After all - smaller is cheaper to ship and uses less petrol causing less pollution and they will grow as big as they would if they were shipped as bigger plants. Not to mention I'm good at keeping TC plants alive so there's no complaint here. Tho I do appreciate larger plants too.
Cheers,
Mike

Does anyone have any surviving "Pearl" from last year?
Is it me or do these tissue culture look nothing like the original picture provided by Agri-starts? Maybe it needs time to mature?

I still have mine from last year. I remember some talk about them not being variegated like the agri-starts, but mine is still very small so who knows.
Here are pics taken today and one of the same plant about two months after buying it.

This was a few months after purchasing and repotting into a 1 gallon container. It was about 6" tall at the time.

So as you see it does not like the sun and grows so very slowly! I think it is showing a little variegation now that I look at it.
Thanks for the pics Mitchel.
What I was hoping to see was something similiar to this picture.

This is not a pearl. But I was fairly sure that the original picture of the pearl had something similiar but without the dark green variegation. This kind of creamy color with really no visible variegation from far away, just thin lines of green that is probably caused more by the leaf anatomy rather than being the makeup of two different cells. I just seen a picture of a variegated Musa in Japan where the new leaves appear to come up pure white but ages to the similiar green you see above. It was really incredible.

Actually that is what the leaves look like close up. Here is a picture from earlier this summer before I burned the leaves in the sun.

Thanks again for the pictures Mitchell. I guess there's hope for this banana after all. Had one last year, it was more pale green then it croaked. May consider getting another one.

Just got mine today(for 12.95), and it is even smaller than all the ones pictured(two leafs and half as tall). Seem like they should at least grow them up a little after getting then as plugs from agri-starts. Oh well.

I looked but couldn't find them at agri starts. Are they still available there?
