I purchased this HD special and was hoping it was a Iholene Red. But I am afraid it might be an ensete, which I do not need at this time. What do you guys think? I am adding pictures to my gallery shortly.

its fairly easy to tell Ensete have shorter much thicker P-stem i don't see a picture at this point so as soon as you post one we should be able to tell for sure if its not to young

I'm not an expert but i do have many Ensete doesn't look like one to me if its a ventricosum they hold there leafs in a erect fashion and are pointy on the ends
most Ensete are quite thick in the p-stem Perri too short and thick looks like a Musa leaf to me now as far as it being Iholene i couldn't say maybe one of the older more experienced members could tell but usually they will need to see the flowers and fruit to tell for sure most Leafs are not that good an indicator of type so many have such similar foliaged

HD at its best!!! Sorry to say, but the pic in your gallery is indeed an ensete!!! Sometimes HD's mistakes are to our advantage, sometimes not... I was able to separate out a good number of Siam Rubys from Zebrinus this past spring/summer at my HD and only had to pay $13 for them and they were a good 2-3' tall overall. Was pleased with their mistake on that one!!! Sorry about your misfortune, but hey, the ensete you purchased is a nice looking banana whether you need it or not...

Hey Jeff.
I got a red one from Home Depot last spring that I thought was Iholene red too. Turned out to be "tall red", and brother is it TALL! This was a 3 gallon plant last spring. Easily the prettiest banana in my garden.
For some reason when attach a pic it always shows up as a thumbnail. Anyway, the other pics are in my gallery.

Interesting. It looks a little flimsy for an ensete. But I'm no ensete guru.

UPDATE: Guys I forgot to update but I managed to get a TRUE Iholene Red since this post. Along with a Siam Ruby and a Giant Cavendish. I am officially banana-ed out.
