I was working in the yard today looking at my Thia Papaya and Hawaiian Guava fruiting.

Hawaiian Guava. The fruit will turn yellow and get to the size of a large orange. Last year we harvested 200 plus guava. We have three plants.

I then noticed a banana flower :goteam: on what is supposed to be a Grand Nain. The plant is close to 20 feet tall.

Stokes several years ago. I moved and took a pup. The plant has been a prolific pupper and I did not think it was a Grand Nain but was waiting for fruit. The pups are very tight to the mother plant. This is the first time it has flowered. Hopefully once it fruits someone can help me ID it. I hate when plants are mislabeled. Across from this banana is a dwarf Orinoco. I bought two plants both with labels from a large nursery in California. well they shot out pups like crazy and the original plants are 15 plus feet tall. They are not dwarfs. Thanks for the reply!

I picked up the Guava seeds from a trip to Hawaii many years ago. Most of us don't know that the fruit is loaded with seeds and is actually very sour. My wife purees it. We then freeze the puree and use it for shakes, guava pancakes and on top of deserts. I am currently growing seedlings. When they are ready to be potted up in one gallons I am going to offer them for free to the members. I don't have Thia papaya seeds yet but I will collect them and do the same.

The guava we have in the Philippines are sweet. The inside turns red and a bit soft on the outside. That's the time when it's ready for harvest. :)

Neil - your guavas sound like the ones we had in Africa - smallish, yellow skin and sweet pink flesh - super nice to pick and eat out of hand. The ones we get here are large, pale green skin and white flesh that tastes of nothing much. In fact my guava tree is the next thing headed for the compost bin as plants have to earn their place where space is limited and my lychee seedlings are doing well!! MG your papaya is looking very good - congratulations!
