Dear all,

I have brought back from Brazil (Pernambuco State, NE) two rhizomes (bulbs) of banana prata (MUSA AAB) long more or less 25 inches (60 cm).
I have planted it in a vase with a diameter of about 60cm, with high quality soil.
Ihave found out that the rhizome should be trimmed before plant it....is it true, or also without trim it it will be fine?
Then, the external leaves are drying, and the plant does not look very healthy...
I am located in Milan, Northern Italy, and currently we have pretty much the same atmospheric conditions as Pernambuco...but still it is not producing leaves after 10 days.

Can you give me some tips?

:waving:

Thank you in advance

As someone who has done the same thing only from Cuiaba and BH...I planted mine, kept them moist(not wet) and left them...I was seeing sprouts in a week...all the old outside died and new plants came up quickly. Relax, pour a glass of wine, and enjoy....

Thank you very much!
I love the wine tip ;)...

Did you trim / cut the rhizome / bulb before planting it?

Oh, by the way, there are no sprouts or anything like that....nothing has changed since I plant them (over ten days ago)...

I typically don't see any new growth from a pup that's been transplanted for 30 or more days depending upon how long it's been out of the soil, and the condition of the pup itself. Freshly dug pups that have not had the roots disturbed much before potting will grow faster. You don't need to trim the corm before planting but you can if you want. In my experiance it's best to let the soil get pretty dry before watering. With average temperatures I will pot a corm and water it once, then wait for new growth before watering again. This all but prevents any rotting. The wine tip helps too! :)

Thank you vey much for the tips.
The conditions of the pups were good, and they have not been out of soil for more than 30 days.
Still nothing happen yet.

They look fine, just make sure they are not sitting in wet soil. Until some new roots start growing and taking in water the corm will be subject to rotting if kept too wet..
