Does anyone know anyting about these; how to tell when they are ready to harvest, etc?
I bought some, several years ago, from that famous TT Nursery, in Georgia. They had some azaleas, that I wanted, quite cheap. So I ordered a bunch, and threw in the filberts, just to round out the order. When I got the order, it was only the filberts. They said they were out of the azaleas, which is what I really wanted.
Ever since then, there were a few each year, which the squirrels got. However, this year, I have a bumper crop. I don't know when they are ready. The husks are still green. Do they have to turn, or dry, or nything, before they are ripe? I don't want to pick them prematurely, but I don't want the tree rats to get all of them either

Thanks.

I know a taste tester from NJ who might be willing to help!:ha:
