Lets just say that my wife is not happy with me at the moment! Hopefully I can sell a few pups to get back my investment and how much gas it cost me and maybe make a few dollars each year to pay for all the different things me and the kids want to grow. They are so pretty...

The plant on the fence post is the amorphophallus rivieri they gave me 2 of those.

Not sure if there is anything I could do for them they haven't already done...lol

They have the most beautiful back yard and you can tell that they have spent a long happy life in that back yard. Those Ae Ae's came from one plant they got back in the early 80's

They are moving further north and can't take everything with them...

Great Score Martin

You mentioned they were elderly, Perhaps there is something you could
do for them someday? What incredibly generous folks. Congrats on your newfound fortune. :goteam:

Thats the line I have been using but she wasn't buying it telling me I will believe it when I see it... lol

The garden I convinced her that we needed to start and the kids as well that was supposed to save a little money on grocery bills and help us eat more healthy has morphed into a slightly expensive obsession for me. hehehe

Very nice, and she'll understand when you sell a few pups. Did you drive that far just to pick up the plants?

My wife thinks I am crazy, because when I get passionate about something I go all out!

A few years ago I got really into building computers. I have this monster PC I built and overclocked it. It a huge tower with 2 giant fans on the side and 3 terabytes of hard drives in it. Its my recording studio computer. one 30 inch monitor and 2 22 inch monitors on either side.

Then I preceded to take all the other 3 computers that we had purchased from Costco at different occasions and modded them out as much as I could. One of them I modded the case cut it up and added a huge fan on the side. I learned a lot... now anyone that knows me and has a computer question they call me.

That's just one example of one of my many hobbies... lol

My wife says I know too much and she doesn't understand why we are not rich! hahaha

Wow...talk about a treasure hunt...did they have a big X in the front yard?

The amorphophallus rivieri is also known as amorphophallus konjac. It may have been rare when they purchased it, but now it is fairly common. It goes dormant every fall and will come back up in the spring. It is supposed to be zone 6 hardy, but beware, if you put it in the ground you may never get rid of it. They reproduce by generating lots of new bulbs. Yours looks like it may be big enough to bloom in a year or two. It will smell like rotting meat but it looks so cool.

Good find, I hope the AeAe's do well for you. Have you started a pup waiting list yet...your wife will love that ;-)

Not only are the amorphophallus rivieri quite common now, So
are Ae Ae's. The Ae Ae banana plant is just like a fart. You may
not see them, but they are all over the place, and you only need
to sniff around for awhile to find one.:ha:
I don't know if it is true, but I heard Monrovia Nurseries is starting
to do a large number of these so called Rare Ae Ae's.
If it is true, in a couple of short years they should be comparatively
priced with most other banana cultivars. Because Monrovia is HUGE.
Wouldn't that be great!:02:

If Aeae were to ever become anywhere near as common as other banana plants, they would still be expensive. Aeae plants must be grown from pups, they can be tissue cultured but the variegation doesnt come with it which is kind of the whole point of growing them. And where did you hear Monrovia is starting to sell Aeae?

Must not let my wife read this, she will kill me!

I am not trying to get rich selling AeAe's would be nice just to recoup my cost and maybe help pay for some Fert and a few other garden supplies here and there...

I heard that Monrovia is selling Ae Ae's from my Sister ,
She lives in the US and at a nursery she went to, the
saleswoman said they came from Monrovia and all the
Ae Ae's were in Monrovia Pots. Monrovia allways does
things in a big way, a huge amount of tropicals come
into BC, Canada from Monrovia every year. And as easily and
frequently that AeAe's can produce pups, they could have
large numbers in no time. They don't start everthing from
seed and tissue culture, and never do things in a small way.
Lets face it if Ae Ae's were as RARE as most people make them out
to be Would Greenthumb Nursery be selling a 3.57 gallon AEAE
for 32.99 and a 5 Gallon for 49.99. (OF COURSE NOT.)
Obviously the more saturated the market is with them, they
cheaper they become. So sorry to dissapoint all you Ae Ae growers
out there in hopes of making big money, but the prices should continue
to decline. Simple supply and demand rule of thumb.

I never said I got them for the price of gas. I actually paid for the plants + gas... that's why my wife is mad at me. If it was just for gas she wouldn't really have a problem.

Have 2 pups coming up now so should be able to sell those 2 in a few weeks...

I didn't mean you got them for just the price of gas. Sorry if you thought that! I'm sure they are worth every penny though as they are sure beautiful!
They are sure striking and I'm sure even more in person!
Congrats again!
